Refreezing meat or poultry?!

Question:

Refreezing meat or poultry?

Most meat or poultry arrives at the supermarket in frozen condition and then thaws in the display case. If purchased frozen or semi thawed can it be refrozen. If not why not.

Answers:
Do not refreeze meat or poultry, You will get food poisoning.

It is re-freezable and can store from six months to a year. I recommend buying bulk packs because you get a better price and dividing them into several meals. Just don't freeze them in the original packaging as that allows air to get in. Re package in air tight container or aluminum foil. I usually use the latter or a ziploc bag with all of the air removed.

You can refreeze poultry but your should be careful not to wait too long since its thawed. Harmful bacteria may have bloomed during the thawing processes, most poultry should be used soon after purchase or refrozen immediately, to eliminate the potential for harmful bacteria to accumulate.
