Answers:
Broiling (exclusive to American and Canadian English) or grilling (elsewhere in the English speaking world) is a process of cooking food with high heat with the heat applied directly to the food, most commonly from above. Heat transfer to the food is primarily via thermal radiation. As it is a way of cooking without added oil, it is popular in low-fat diets.

I think it's what we call grilling

There is a lot of difference between BROIL and BOIL.

BROIL is when you put your food in the oven close to the top, and turn on your broiler. It is the element located in the top of your oven. Food will burn easily because of the intense heat.

BOIL is done in a liquid like water in a pot or pan on top of the stove.

We use both methods of cooking, plus a few more.

Broiling is using the top burner in an oven. It cooks at a high temp and fast. If you are broiling potatoes make sure they are very thin or they will burn. If it is meat then watch it carefully so it dosent flare up

Broil is the word for Grill which is the common word in the US and Canada

Hey, Shamus! To broil foods like steaks, put them on a slatted shallow baking dish and place the oven rack in the highest position. Put the broiler on high and put the rack into the oven. Keep the door open so you can watch the process and keep them from burning.

Broiling is what the Americans and Canadians refer to what the English mistakenly call grilling - the cooking of food by means of a heat source from above. Burgers, sausages, steaks etc are broiled/grilled.

I'm splitting hairs, but what the Americans call a broiler and what we British call a grill is actually a salamander. The Americans have the best idea, however, because the use of the word 'broil' avoids confusion with the true nature of grilling, which is to cook food in a heavy pan, with a minimum of oil, initially on a high heat, on the hob. So we Brits say that what is broiled is grilled, and what is grilled is pan-fried and what is pan-fried is actually sauteed, and what is sauteed is actually shallow fried - ye Gods, now I know why British cuisine has such a lousy reputation!!!

Blast! I was going to get in the bit about the salamander ( grilling is heating from below on a metal "grill"), but Foghorn got there first!
