Free range chicken????!

Question:

Free range chicken????

What is the difference in a free range chicken and a non free range (whatever they are called)?

Answers:
Yes, Free Range means just as it sounds. The chicken is allowed to roam...not all are actually free to be outside scratching the ground, though that is usually what the term means. Some factory farms do allow chickens to roam inside, the 'barns' are huge, covering over an acre and housing over 100k chickens. They can still be getting hormones, steroids, and having their beaks cut off so they don't harm one another. The factory farms get chick to full sized chicken in 4 months. Sad by true. I hope no one continues to support this industry.

Organic free range chickens are outside, pecking and scratching. They are fed organic feed if need be, but they usually do fine in the Spring, Summer and early Fall just rooting around. They do not get hormones, steroids, or any other chemical injected into them. I also get the eggs as well. They are much better.

I find it very relaxing leaning the on the fence watching the hens. They sorta 'coo' as they walk around the yard. They're beautiful birds. It's sad that a society thinks it's ok for any 'food' animal to be kept under such vile conditions as exist at factory corporate farms.

free range means that they were not kept in a cage while being raised

Free range chickens are not kept in a cage. Some people feel this is more ethical. They don't mind paying a little extra if their eggs come from a chicken which is treated humanely.

most commercially raised poultry is kept confined in small crowded cages, fed commercial food that's pumped with steriods and antibiotics to make them grow fast, to make more money. these birds never even see sunshine, let alone eat grass & bugs like chickens do naturally.
Free range chickens are loose to scratch in the earth and eat what god intended. Way healthier for you, no chemicals in the meat. they also get exercise and the meat is firmer, not soft and flabby and covered in slimy yellow fat like commercial chicken.

freee range chicken just means to let the "meat produce"
roam free and live it up as much as possible before death and food

There are three ways to raise the birds.
1/ Battery Chickens are kept in small cages in sheds and fed a mixture of foods that encourage growth.

2/ Barn Chicken are allowed to run around in the barn, and are usually fed the same as above.

3/ Free Range Chickens are more or less running free outside, to forage for themselves and supplemented with grain. Very much like a farm yard.
