Defrosting meat,..(PLEASE HELP)?!

Question:

Defrosting meat,..(PLEASE HELP)?

I was thinking of cooking steak tonight, I forgot to thaw the meat last night. Dinner is less than 2hrs, and I just thought about using the microwave (defrost) to thaw the meat.
Is there difference in taste? Personally I don't like using the microwave when it comes to cooking. Just doesn't taste the same...(just my opinion). But since it's just defrosting the meat should I go ahead and throw the meat in cold water, or defrost it ? Thank you very much.

Answers:
use a microwave on defrost and work from there.

you can also just cook the meat from a frozen state. it may take a little longer to cook but will just taste the same. i do it all the time.

I would do luke warm water untill it is time to cook, then go ahead and cood partially frozen

Use the microwave as last resort because it cooks the edges of the meat.

Soaking it in warm water usually does the trick unless its a thicker piece of meat.

I've answered these types of questions before and it has been my experience that the asker will usually take the wrong advice and risk food poisoning rather than taking the safest approach which myself and a few others have suggested. But I will waste my time anyway: thaw it under cold running water for approximately 20-30 minutes.

DO NOT USE WARM, OR HOT WATER TO THAW FROZEN FOOD!!!!!!

Too much chance of spoilage.

What you need to do is put your steaks in a bowl or pot, fill the pot with cool tapwater, and leave the water running into the pot slightly. No need for a heavy flow, just a trickle. You steaks ought to be thawed in about 30 minutes and no chance of food contamination.

Doc Hudson

run under some warm water, NOT HOT, and then set it out covered by some plastic wrap so flies and stuff dont land on the meat. hope this helped. :-D
