Does anyone know how to keep tomatoes from going molding so fast?
I just bought tomatoes on Wednesday, & today (Friday) one of them is already moldy! I've been told not to refrigerate them as they lose flavor.
Answers:
uSE THEM UPO FAST AND BUY MORE OR REFRIGERTAE THEM BUTTHEY DO LOSE TASTE
I keep them in my fridge. I cut them thicker to eliminate the flavor loss.
Eat or sauce them, just cut the mold off it will not hurt you where penicillin came from, if you got them from a farmers market they expect you to understand there are NO preservatives.
I refrigerate mine - unless they need a bit of ripening and never have a problem with them going off. . important thing to remember about fridges is that they dehydrate food so keep ve in a sealed container.
I was going to also say dont let them touch other things but this is not what I do even though I probably should!
Make sure your fridge is at the right temp, although I dont think thats the issue.
I guess its obvious also that putting bruised tomatoes in will make them go soft quicker
Make sure they're not in a plastic bag. It's true that refridgerating them ruins the flavor and texture. I'm lucky, I live in Georgia and grow so many, I can have all the fresh (and green ones I want). Try to grow your own - even in a pot. Or, when you're at the grocery store, buy tomatoes that are not too ripe(not soft). Look for tomatoes that are firm and have an even color. If you see one that has tiny dots on it, the tomato will have a "grainy" texture. Grocery store tomatoes are never as good as home grown. Maybe you can find a produce stand nearby that sells fresh vegetables. It's worth it, a good tomato has an acidic flavor that bought tomatoes don't have. And it's lost if you refrigerate them.
