How do you start a Charcoal grill without lighter fluid ?
Answers:
You can use a newspaper(rolled),or by putting the briskettes into the grill and put it on top of the gas/electric stove till it ignites.
Use a chimney starter, just newspaper and charcoal.
Put newspaper rolls underneath the coals, light them and they will ignite the brickettes.
Kingsford Matchlight has charcoal brickettes that have the fluid built into them.
Gasoline...be careful...ouch...felt the flames from here....
Seriously,,,try Lamp Oil or upping your stock on lighter fluid
Roll a paper and light it. And then spread the fire through the coals. It's just easy.
man just put pieces of paper with the charcoal on the grill and light it up with a matchstick or if you prefer the primitive way, which by the way seems so, with rocks or wood and hope to make a spark of light out of it..goodluck
don't forget to blow a little air on it while it starts to get lit.
All the above
BUT
you can go back the hardware store and buy an electric starter.
But you will miss the pyrotechnic show.
Cheffy's got the right idea with a chimney starter, but I like to turbocharge mine by putting it on my propane burner for the turkey fryer. Coals are ready in five minutes!
Use a 5 lb metal coffee can and remove both ends. Punch out 3- 4 holes on the sides of the can using the triangular "punch" end of a bottle opener. Place the can in the grill with the side holes on the bottom. Use a small amount of paper and kindling in the bottom of this can and place your briquets on top of the kindling. Light the paper and kindling, either from one of the side punched holes, or using a long fireplace match (or a strand of UNCOOKED spaghetti) light from the open top. When the kindling lights, leave the can in place until the briquets have a light coating of ash. Then remove the can and spread the briquets.
You can make homemade fire starters with a cardboard* egg carton, sawdust, wax and string. Cut the egg carton apart into twelve "cups." Fill each cup with sawdust, place a piece of string in the sawdust like a candle wick and fill with melted wax. When the wax hardens you will have 12 firestarters.
* DO NOT USE STYROFOAM EGG CARTONS-IT WILL MELT WHEN YOU POUR THE HOT WAX INTO IT.
