What is the best kind of can opener?
I just moved out of my parents house, so I'm still a little domestically challenged. My can opener broke, and I don't want to buy another cheap one that is going to break in a few months. What type of can opener would you suggest?
Answers:
Don't buy an electric can opener. It is a waste of counter space. Go to a good cookware supply store and invest in a good, sturdy, old fashioned hand held can opener. Just toss it in the silverware drwer when you don't need it.
Some can openers are hard to use. (the cheap ones) while the more expensive ones are easy to use.
If you are talking manual, by hand, Swing-A-Way. The one I have, I have had for like 10 years. Walmart sells them.
The cheap, silver hand cranks are the very best.
Oster makes an awesome electric one.
I have used both electric and the hand type and I think the hand type is the best. When you have a power outage you can at least use your hand type but if you have electric then you are out of luck.
I would never own an electric can opener. Go to Sur La Table or Williams and Sonoma and buy a heavy hand opener, much better.
