Why do I crave sweet foods?!

Question:

Why do I crave sweet foods?

I am one of those people who just cant go through a day without having something sweet to eat! For example, in the morning I will have a bowl of porridge, but I have to have loads of honey and chopped bananas with it (and they have to be a few days old, the more sugary the better!), then there's lunch, where I will have a sandwich or something, but straight after I have to have somethong sweet like chocolate, and dinner will be the same. Even if im very full, I always manage to fit in some chocolate! I try to eat healthily (eat plenty of fruit/fish & veg etc) but I always need desserts! I just want to know why this is? Is it a childhood thing (my parents always gave me a dessert after I finished my meals) or is there an underlying problem, such as im lacking iron or something or other in my body? Also why does it always get worse around the time of my period?! I can happily munch through a whole box (or two!) of Krispy Kremes and nothing else! Any braniacs out there with any answers?

Answers:
Sugar is addictive, there is much research to support this.

Some people are more prone to addiction that others. Also, some people will respond more to one stimulus than another.

At least sugar is your addiction and not cocaine!

Try cutting down slowly, withdrawl from sugar causes irregular heartbeat, headache, fatigue, nausea, crankiness and dizziness. Drink LOTS of water!

Good Luck!

Kinesiologist, work with patients who have to cut out sugar for one reason or another.

Thats not good girl, im cuttin down on sweets because im on my
diet, i only eat sweets in the morning because its better you wont gain the pounds cuz it gets you up and ready to go!!! yup

prehaps u have worms?

i'm the same way!
when u make sweets a part of your diet your body adjusts to that diet.

Oh, it's not a problem lol. I'm the say way! So is my dad, and my great aunt. It's genetics.
It's kind of like allergies, some poeple have it, and some don't.
You don't have to be worried about it, as long as you don't overdose on sugar and get diabetese, you are fine.
It could possibly be linkes to your parents gicing you desrt after every meal, but only partially.
You could be used to it, and like sweets at the same time.
Eat on, sweet lovers! Eat on.
Hehe.
Good Luck!

my sister has that problem. she tricks her body by drinking low-fat chocolate milk. your body will get full faster, get the nutrients from the milk and you will enjoy the chocolate taste. she has lost quite a bit of weight just by switching to the low-fat milk

I think it gets worse for many girts "at that time of the month" ... I crave for sweets then .. well .. i do very often anyway, but then it's just amazing!
and I think sugar is addictive.
(chocolate is, I know that for a fact)
try not to eat any for a month or so .. it worked for me ... I treat myself once in a while (and definitely before I get my period, I simply have to), but I'm usually fine.

becuase there really GOOD!

Your just happen to have an addiction to certain foods, this can be help by diet pills, but before you do it consult your doctor. People claim to be addicted to lots of things so don't feel bad. Some of them are outrageously stupid.

'Fraid we were designed to have a sweet tooth - an evolutionary thing so we avoid spoiled food.
All you can do is exercise a little common sense. The main thing is to avoid eating sweet stuff between meals. Fat and sugar are better processed if they form part of your main 3/4 meals a day.
Are you one of those skinny types always hungry? In which case fill up on the complex carbs, and knock yourself out, you lucky devil, you can eat anything you like.

Lower the amount of salt in your diet.
