Any cooking ideas for a 14 year old?

Answers:
Eggs are fun, with omelets, scrambles, and such. The biggest trick to learn is not under-cooking them or burning them. And they don't require a huge outlay in tools, materials, or infrastructure to do good things.
Sauces from scratch are good, too (and you only need a pan or two and the ingredients). Use them with pastas or simple cuts of meat. There are sauces so simple that anyone can do 'em, and sauces so subtle that even the world masters still tinker to get them just right.
Are there any restrictions on what you can try? Do you have enough recipes (books or cards) to get you started? The trick is to practice one or two basic standards (ham and cheese omelet or hollandaise sauce, for example), and then start experimenting from there.
ya take any fruit u have and mix it with ice and soy milk and... YUM YUM YUM
You could make spaghetti, or any other type of pasta. Its easy because all you have to do is boil the water and add the pasta sauce. Hope that helped a little bit!

are you talking about making the WHOLE meal out of scratch?
if so then try to make lasagna, pizza, ice cream (if your really good)
how about grilled chicken
grill/fry it on med heat w/ herbs and spices till brown on both sides and juices are clear
go through cook books and see what sound interesting and try that
Make a meatloaf. browned ground Hamburger mixed with seasoned bread crumbs and some tomato sauce shaped into a loaf pan to make like a shell and keep some of the mix aside for the top. Make instant mashed potatoes or your own and put inside the meatloaf and top with shredded cheese. Cover over with the rest of the mix and bake in the oven for a half hour on 375 degrees.
Also boil any pasta and toss with any kind of vegetables and make your own sauce red or white.
Use the internet and find some recipies.
Some easy things to cook using non-boxed stuff are pancakes, eggs, chicken parmesian, crazy salads (lettuce, dressing and whatever!!!), baked chicken and... grilled chicken with a maranade or spice rub.
mmmmmmmmmm.....
I also am a teenager and love to cook...i love to cook lemon peppered grilled chicken breast and steamed broccoli and cauliflower with cheese...its soo good and healthy...
for snack with your friends try puppy chow its easy good and you cant just pull all the ingredients out of a box and throw it all together
good luck
Also dont be afraid to try something new you think of in your head!
Make things out of the can like mmm...Chef Boyarde.
the key is to start with a simple recipe, read it thoroughly and make sure you have all your ingredients right there in front of you. Build your confidence, I learned to cook from my grandma and from her telling me to get a cookbook out, and pick something that I thought sounded good. Then we'd work on it together and the result was sometimes exactly what we expected and other times we used as learning experiements..lol
I love that you want to break out of "the box" cooking routine, there's nothing better than food from scratch.
Here's a simple meal you can make, one that I make at my own home:
Marinated Chicken Breasts, allrecipes.com has some awesome marinades that you'll go back to time and time again. Just make sure you dont overcook/undercook the chicken, pay attention to the time it tells you to cook.
Garlic Mashed Potatoes-very simple. Prepare your potatoes as usual, except when you go to mash them, add very finely minced garlic. Or you can make a garlic butter to go on them...
and lastly the most delicious cauliflower recipe ever..and its SOOO simple.
Cheesy Baked Cauliflower:
take one head of cauliflower, take off all the green parts and steam the head in a pan of boiling water for about 15 minutes. (I am assuming you know how to steam it..) while its steaming, mix 1/4 cup mayo with 2 teaspoons of mustard and blend it very well. After the cauliflower is steamed, take it out of the pan and put it in a piepan, then spread margarine all over the head. Then put the coating of mayo/mustard all over the head and then sprinkle over with parmesan cheese. Bake at 350degrees for 30 minutes.
You will LOVE it..and so will your family :) good luck and keep trying!!
I have been teaching my 8 yr old to scramble eggs & make toast. Grilled cheese is sooo easy also. How about a quesadilla? the possiblities are huge! You didn't really say how advanced you wanted to get, but boxed stuff---yuck
Good Luck at least your are trying! Amy
14 huh? Well I did this at 10 , so if you really love to cook...Simple Pot Roast...Mine has changed since that time, but this is easy and fun.
3 lbs chuck roast...you can use a bottom or rump also...first time i used rump...my aunt told me to....anyway.....
1 pkg lipton onion soup mix
i can tomato paste
3-4 cups beef stock....until about 3/4 the way submerged
veg oil or butter...or better a combo
salt and pepper
So...This is very important....you need a dutch oven....heat to med high....add oil and butter....salt and pepper roast...set in pan to sear (brown) on all sides...after seared remove to a plate.
add tomato paste...stir with a wooden spoon...scraping the brown bit on the bottom of the pan...about 2 minutes...add beef stock..you can use water but the stock is better....stir...add soup mix....stir cook until boil...add back roast....let come to boil...cover and reduce heat to the lowest point....allow to simmer 3 hrs...covered.
it comes out so good...tender and delicious...to make gravy...combine 1 Tbs of cornstarch and about 1 Tbs water...it should be the consistency of milk....COLD water only....whisk into remaining liquid. If you want to make a whole meal well mashed potatoes are good...but you just cooked this perfect roast...boil up some egg noodles...drain add butter..pour the gravy over the top, oh my now that's the thing ! Good Luck...and Good Cooking!!!!!
