What does Vegemite taste like?!

Question:

What does Vegemite taste like?

My friend, Josip, is Austrailian and he's in LOVE with vegemite, but my friend says its disgusting. I've heard it's reallly salty and bad. So, how should I eat it, what does it taste like, and where can I buy it in the US?

Answers:
Its delicious. It is salty - I am not sure of an American equivalent. It tastes a LITTLE similar to Japanese Miso paste. It really is an acquired taste and we Aussies usually like it because we grew up on it.
It is great on toast or on a sandwich, but don't put too much on. Maybe you can buy it through the Foreign Buyers Club.

I dont know, but ive always wanted to try it

Uh huh, it's landmark Aussie paste....you put it on bread, or crackers or sth of the like. It's salty, it's ok. Thickness is like Nutella.

It tastes really bitter, really bad. I'm not sure where you can get it in the US though.

Its a yeast product. It does taste like Miso, and the key to trying it to ensure you want something savoury, and to apply it to a piece of bread very thinly.

Vegemite and Marmite (NZ) version.

Best way to eat it is in a chip sandwich - bread, butter, marmite, chips . . . enjoy :)~

darling, what does it sound like?? doesn't sound too appetizing to me, but go with the other answerers.
