How long can you keep littleneck clams in the fridge?!

Question:

How long can you keep littleneck clams in the fridge?

Answers:
well shellfish are technically alive, and should be kept on ice. They are also foolproof when you cook them in that the dead ones will close tight and the good ones open up, so you just throw away the ones that stay closed during cooking.

You can also check right before cooking as the live ones should be a little open, but will close if you tap lightly on the shell.

All that being said, I wouldn't keep them in the fridge more than a day or two. If you don't think you'll eat them that quick, then freeze them.

You should use live clams within 2 or 3 days. It is best to store them in a shallow open container with damp paper towels covering them.

This goes for all clams....AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE.
Clams do get get poisonous fast after they die. ^.^ the best way to find it out is once you take them out of the fridge try to open them without the use of a knife only with your hands. if they open they are dead and throw them away if they dont open you can boil them of whatever you wan't. They MUST open slightly when you cook them if they dont that means they where dead before and only the death cramp thing made the unable to open ...those might potentaly be eadable but i wouldnt risk it XD only eat those that open after they where cooked and didnt open before cooking

For me , 24 hours tops!
