Is it true that eggs are safe to eat for a week past the exp. date?

I have eggs that have an expiration date of May 29 (4 days ago). Is it true that they're ok to eat for a week past their exp. date?

Usually those dates are best by dates. I however do not eat anything past the expiration date.
