Why do they put holes in saltines?!

Question:

Why do they put holes in saltines?

Answers:
dry them out

The holes help them cook inside and outside drying the crackers out more so they stay crispy

they "dock" them. have you ever made a pie crust for something like a cream pie, or custard, you have to cook the pie crust first. you roll it out thin, like a the cracker is thin, but if you dont "dock" it, or poke holes in it, then it will puff up high with the air building up under it, same with the pizza crust. if you dont put the holes in them when they bake, then they will just puff up and be shaped wierd. so, its like docking it so the puff just enough, and still keep the shape.
