What benefits does eating fruit and vegetables bring to the human body?

I try to be healthy and eat fruit and vegetables, but often I don't eat any, I feed on fast food, beer and other tripe all day but I don't feel or look any different - I don't feel any worse than when I eat healthily. But maybe that is because I am still young. What is the point of eating fruit and veg ?

they are good for us, delicious, and so versatile! they will feed us and make us healthy

altho i know all this i indulge quite a bit! but my fruit bowl is full! :o) always is!

I would have to say the nutrients provided by the fruit and vegetables, i have done the healthy option and the whatever you feel like lazy option, and trust me i did this for one month and then just went AWOL and when i was doing the healthy option(i work in a shop) customers were asking what i was doing and they said whatever it is your doing something right, no bullshit straight up, i have slipped somewhat and can definitely tell the difference and will be going on the good stuff! Also i am 55 years of age and look about 42 so people tell me so if you want to preserve what you have got give up the crap and look after your body and it will look after you!

Fruits and veggies provide us with fiber in our diet which is necessary and it also provides us with natural vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants. You are still young, but if you continue to eat on fast food, beer, and other junk on a regular basis (it is okay to indulge occasionally) the effects will probably catch up to you later. You could end up with heart disease, etc.

The vitamins and minerals derived from food supply your cells (the things you are made of) with nutrients to sustain life and ward off disease and sickness. They also make it easier to eliminate toxins from your body, the process is enabled by the fiber content in fruits and vegetables. Different vitamins and minerals do so many things for so many different parts of your body and organs it's impossible to list them all.
