Is this ground meat ok to use?!

Question:

Is this ground meat ok to use?

Just bought ground meat at the market to make hamburgers. As I am pulling the meat apart the outside of it is red however, the inside is brown in color. The experation date is June 4th. It smells fine but I am unsure do you think I can still use it even though it is brown inside?

Thanks for your help.

Answers:
Yep it's ok, it has turned brown just because the air has gotten to it, they may have repackaged meat that was a little older with some fresher meat. As long as it smells fresh, it should be just fine.

if it smells fine then yes, just make sure you cook it thoroughly to kill all the bacteria.

It' s fine.

As long as it smells okay, its good.

Yes, it's fine. The red color on the external portions of the meat is caused by its exposure to oxygen (think in terms of oxygenated blood versus non-oxygenated blood). Hemoglobin that has picked up oxygen (or carbon monoxide, but that's another story) is much redder than hemoglobin that hasn't bound to one of those yet. You're safe :-)

It's perfectly fine.

What happnes is when red meat sits, it turns brown w/o oxygen. Just a simple, harmelss chemical reaction. What butchers do is use a special plastic wrap w/ invisible tiny holes in it to allow oxygen in, which keeps meat red on teh outside, but oxygen can't permeate throught, so the innermost meat is brown.

No biggie, perfectly fine!

Yeah everyone is right, it's probably fine. Besides it hasn't expired yet, so I'm sure it is fresh. It's your call though. There is a saying about bad food.... When in doubt, throw it out!

the ground meat is still good ,what happens is the blood from the middle dries up.causing it turn a brown color. If it smells good it is safe to use, but use your judgement in decideing if it safe to use.
