Would a rotten fruit/veggie still be as nutritious as a regular one?!

Question:

Would a rotten fruit/veggie still be as nutritious as a regular one?

Answers:
No, it would not. Believe it or not, nutritionally, a food will loose its potency in nutrition the less fresh it becomes. The fresher the better. Freezing and cooking does weaken nutritional value as well...such as vitamin C while cooking. Some items become more absorbent in their nutritional value when cooked...such as carrots and Vitamin A, even though the cooking process weakens the nutritional value of the food item. This is not to say that you will not get any nutrition from cooked or frozen items, thats not just true (frozen vegetables/fruits contain more nutrition than those that are canned)...you could effectly get nutrition from a rotten vegetable or fruit--just less than it contained when it was first picked off the vine/plant/tree.

Aside from the lose in nutritional value, if a vegetable is rotten...is it fermented within an environment that is controlled? (such as wine or beer--you do get some nutrition from beer---this is why alcoholics are able to survive on a diet that consists of mostly beer (obviously, they are lacking in other seriously needed nutrients, but they don't starve to death, per se.) Vegetables and fruits can harbor potentially hazardous bacteria that is especially harmful to children and elderly individuals....the older these vegetables and fruits are(rotten) and the way they are handled..if handled poorly, the more likely that people (anyone) can get a food borne illness.(AND the fruit or vegetable doesn't necessarily have to be rotten for the bacteria to grow or food borne illness to occur)

I fed an old dead green bean to my bird and he said he felt great!

yes

It depends if it is moldy. than it is not nutritionist and sure as hell wouldn't taste better

sure!

Probably not exactly, because of certain bacteria and things on it, but I doubt the nutrtional values would differ a whole lot.

No, the vitamins and nutrients also break down and bacteria consume them as well.

No. Rotten fruit and vegetables have harmful bacteria. Toss it.

umm I think it will make u sick rather than healthy

I would say no, everything expires. I'm thinking you wouldn't be able to get pass the sight, smell and the taste to try it.
