How do I keep bananas from going bad?
Two days after I buy fresh bananas, they start to get brown on the outside and mushy on the inside. I keep them out of the fridge, in a non-air conditioned enviroment, but they still go bad.
Answers:
Store at room temperature. Do not expose the fruit to extreme temperatures. Unripe bananas should not be stored in the refrigerator because the cold temperature will stop the ripening process. Ripe bananas can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days to extend their usage time before they become too ripe. Once they are placed in the refrigerator their peel will turn brown but this will not affect the flesh of the banana. If stored with other fruit, bananas will accelerate the ripening of the other fruit.
Ripe bananas can be mashed and then frozen. When mashing, add a little lemon juice to prevent the fruit from discoloring. The mashed bananas can be placed in air tight freezer bag and stored in the freezer for up to two months. You can use the frozen bananas in recipes such as salads and fruit shakes or they can be thawed and used in breads, cakes and muffins.
you eat them, fruits dno't stay fresh forever ya know?
Dont buy them to ripe so that they last a bit longer or you can eat them quicker.
some tips
-Buy the green fresh ones
-Don't buy more than you can eat
-Fridge is a good place to store
-if you store in room temperature, cover it w/ a plastic bag, so bugs won't get to them
Get a banana tree. Hang them from the stem, and they last longer. Don't lay them down.
No, no, no. Put them in the fridge, not kidding. The peel will turn black but they will stay fresh as ever inside!
*coat them in sugar/lemon (not heavy with the lemon tho LOL)
*Fridge (best option)
*Buy them when they are uber green
Take off the peels, and stick them in a huge bowl of Crest toothpaste.
Hiya!! Well my suggestion comes from food service experience @ a smoothie bar 2yrs ago. We would go through @ least 6 cases of bananas in a week. So in order to never run out we would have them delivered when nice & ripe. Peel that day then cut into halves or thirds depending on their size & freeze in Ziploc bags. Worked like a dream. Hope this helps. Good luck :o)
p.s.-next time u find ur self w/black bananas try this recipe to use them up
Vegan Banana pancakes
prep-35 min cook-5 min
2-4 servings 8-12 pancakes
2 slightly soft bananas
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 3/4 soy milk
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons oil
combine all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth.
Pour onto oiled skillet at medium heat.
Bubbles will form and pop.
brown both sides and serve.
You may have to thin batter with water to get it to spread easily.
If they start turning black put them in a precessor and make a milk shake-beautiful.
