Is it ok to eat the Salad/lettuce when it turns brownish color?
I always buy salad and then if I refrigerate it for couple of days it turns brownish color around the edges. Is this ok to eat still or is it bad for you?
Answers:
No, it wont hurt you as long as its only a couple of days. Lettuce does that. Just pick out the worst of it. If it's slimy or has a bad odor then you've gone too long. Just a couple of days is fine.
ehh...... i wouldn't...
its not really bad for you but it will taste bad.
If it is not brown and limp all the way through then it should be fine...but lettuce should be used up with in three days of purchase....
As long as it is not soggy--and it's not spinach--there are too many bacterias being found in salads anymore--I buy the bagged salad and as soon as it starts looking yucky- out it goes.
Somtimes that happens with salad, there is too much moisture, you can eat it but I would just cut the bit that is brown and eat the fresh bits. Why not just buy on the day your gonna eat it or just 1 day before??.
you can, but it doesn't taste to well.
The brownish edges will taste somewhat sour and a little bitter. You may want to get rid of the brownish part before you eat it. Also, it's better to eat the salad within the period of 2 days after you bought it.
It is ok to eat. It is just oxidized to that brown color by oxygen and normal enzymatic reactions within the lettuce. Flavor may not be as fresh.
