Answers:
Ben and Jerry I assume
Betcha it's a couple of guys named Ben and Jerry (actually I have seen them interviewed on TV, I'm sure you can go to their web site and look it up or someone will for ya).
I do know JERRY GARCIA did NOT invent it but has one of their most popular flavors named after him, Cherry Garcia.
Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield
No thats not true. They were 2 guys from Merrick.
Bennett Cohen and Jerry Greenfield yes they were from Merrick, Long Island, NY.
a couple of jews
It's funny how this rumors get started. Garcia is not the "Jerry" in Ben and Jerry's. They are two entreprenuers from Vermont who built a company around combining high quality with evironmentally friendly techniques and quirky-sounding flavors, such as "Cherry Garcia" (named in honor of the Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead).
Highschool friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield began their business in Burlington, Vermont In 1978.
The links below has much more information.
As digdugs said, it's Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. They got together in high school because they "were the slowest, fattest kids in the class". They are very philanthropic, believing that "as you help others, you are helped in return" and they based their business on that principle. They have sold the business to Unilever. They have opened a Ben and Jerry's franchise in Squirrel Hill, staffed entirely by clients of LifesWork, whose mission is to assist people with disabilities and others facing significant barriers to employment to find a job and to perform well in that job over time. This not only provides jobs, but revenue for the organization.
They do have a "Cherries Garcia" flavored ice cream, in homage to Jerry Garcia. Perhaps that's what caused the confusion.
