In theory raw eggs can contain salmonella -however the egg industry is very regulated and the chances are very low. Also if you do eat something with salmonella there is a chance that your immune system will kill it without you ever getting sick. I haven't seen any actual statistics on this as to what percentage will get sick. But even when a town water system is contaminated with something like e coli MOST people do not get ill).
The other thought is that raw flour can contain eggs for certain worms and insects. Weevils are common though as far as I know weevils do not infect humans and the eggs die in stomach acid. I do not know specifically what in raw flour people are concerned about but it is cited more and more frequently. However I have eaten tonnes of raw batters of all kinds over the years and never gotten sick. I also do all sorts of "dangerous" things like eat my eggs over easy (or even raw in shakes) and my lamb medium rare.

Oh good gawd people salmonella is "deadly"
As per the CDC:
"A person infected with the Salmonella enteritidis bacterium usually has fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea beginning 12 to 72 hours after consuming a contaminated food or beverage. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without antibiotic treatment. However, the diarrhea can be severe, and the person may be ill enough to require hospitalization.
The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems may have a more severe illness. In these patients, the infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. "

So umm yeah if you have a weakened immune system AND are violently ill AND fail to seek treatment it may kill you -or I suppose if we run out of antibiotics, I know they are so rare.
Me too, but technically, raw eggs can be very dangerous.
Yes, if the eggs are contaminated.
Potentially you can, but I've been licking the spoon and the bowl for over 50 years and I haven't gotten sick yet!
Assuming there is raw eggs in it yes.
But their are also people who swallow whole cups full of raw eggs.
Some say it can contain samonella, but I still eat it!
=]
they say you can get salmonella from the raw eggs. as long as you eat salsa rather regularly, you'll probly never get salmonella from anything.
Its the raw eggs that pose a possible health hazard. I personally think cookie dough is worth the risk. I believe the hazard is salmonella.
You can only get sick if the raw eggs in it have salmonella.
Depends weather or not there is raw eggs, and if there is a dairy product involved it must be kept cold, if no eggs, no problem, just make sure it has not been out at room temp all day if there is dairy involved
me too but it never hurt me i think my mom would tell me that so i wouldnt eat it but raw eggs is supposed to be bad for you but rocky would drink it so i think it is just a saying kinda like if you eat a watermelon seed then one will grow in your stomach lol if youve ever heard of that
ive eaten the cake batter and nothing happened but technically you shouldnt really because of the raw eggs in it,
Yes, if the eggs are contaminated (perhaps salmonella). But it isn't stopping me from my cookie dough or batter! I'll take the risk! Pregnant women and elderly are at greatest risk. (If I live to be eighty, I think I'll still have some cookie dough. YUM)
Yes, you can violently sick form salmonella, a disease that you can get from raw eggs. If you have a recipe that does not contain any raw eggs, then it would probably be safe to eat. Salmonella poisoning can cause you to have severe stomach pains, and in some cases you can be hospitalized, or die.
Since cookie dough and cake batter contain raw eggs, there is a possibility you could get salmonella. But if you use eggs from a reliable source, it shouldn't be problem
Samonellla from the raw eggs could kill you. I wouldn't recommend it.
yea. There is a CHANCE that you can get sick. The raw eggs can make you sick. Its this thing called Salmonella. Salmonella is a bacteria that can be on raw or undercooked eggs. The heat when you cook it kills them so if it is cooked correctly its okay.
people tell me it is...but i love and eat it all the time and haven't got sick...
They both have raw egg ingredients in them, so yes...but only if the eggs are contaminated.
The chances of getting salmonella is really slim, and from what I've read you can only get this if the eggs had something wrong with them to begin with.
I ate that stuff all the time, nothing bad happened.
no, i dont, i love it....
same here, the only time ive had a problem is if i had eaten too much but that happens with anything
Yes, you can. It has been found that Salmonella can invade intact eggs without any trace. Doesn't occur very often, but it is a real risk. People have been eating raw dough and batter for centuries and some have suffered from salmonellosis.
However, there is a way around it today. You can buy eggs in the shell that have been pasteurized. Pasteurization kills Salmonella and (unless you recontaminate them) they would make dough/batter that is safe to eat.
I dont think so, I used to lick spoons and bowls with my Grama when I was young and now I bake my own and yes I lick the spoons, and then my neices and nephews are old enough to bake with their auntie susie and you bet we lick bowls, spoons, mixer beaters, and none of us have ever gotten sick, I say it is not going to make you sick.
