Fish cooked in parchment paper pouch. Takes about 15 minutes. Works great with salmon. Take a salmon filet, lay it on a piece of parchment paper (available at specialty cook shops). Add some thinly sliced leeks, onions or scallions on top, and maybe some thinly sliced carrot. Drizzle with a little olive oil. Add salt if you wish. Fresh or dried dill can also be added. Fold the pachment paper to form a little package and staple it closed. Bake on a cookie sheet for about 10 minutes at 400F. Open and test for done-ness. The cooking time all depends on thickness of the fish. If cooking for more than one person, each person gets their own little package.
For some good after-work out snacks, try a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter, or crackers and peanut butter, tuna fish or chicken salad on wheat bread, some trail mix, a handful of almonds, or some egg salad. All of these things have protein, and are good for a pick-me-up, I believe. Also, remember to stay hydrated really well. I've heard that most people are dehydrated, and they don't even know it. Also, when you're running a little low on energy, rehydrating with a nice glass of water usually will give you a little boost, which is a nice start! I hope this helps.
I would suggest a protein shake. you can make at home. add sugar free ice cream, 2 tb slimfast, 1 tb instant coffee, and 2 tb of any protein powder mix. blend with a few icecubes and a little bit of fat free milk.
Your question's featured here (http://food.yahoo.com/) as of now. You should probably check that site out because it has all the info, I think... lol.
Low Fat Cheese Sticks!! Yummy!!
As a certified health/fitness instructor, I always advise that within one hour of working out, you have a 100-300 calorie snack with a good mixture of complex carbohydrates and lean protein. The muscles recover best with a snack or meal that includes both. Examples: banana w/ peanut butter, smoothie with fat-free yogurt, frozen fruit, a bit of 100% juice, and flaxseed, or some whole-wheat crackers with turkey and low fat cheese.
Also - I always drank coffee after working out in the morning but didn't know if it was good or not, I recently learned that it actually aids in decreasing soreness!
Cereal if u get the right kind of cereal with LOTS of protein and fiber in it, it's really good for u but dont eat to much of hte cereal. just eat a bowl.
fruits--that would be my snack...definitely. GOL ;)
Protein is an essential nutrient that is important to your health. Protein consists of chains of amino acids that are used by our bodies to grow muscles, hair, nails, skin and internal organs.
Diets rich in high protein foods are often recommended for athletes and body builders. In addition, many weight loss diets such as the Atkins diet prescribe a high protein, low carb diet.
Although protein is an essential nutrient, some research suggests that too much protein can increase the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney stones and osteoporosis.
Hope this helps!
