I think soy milk is nothing like regular milk and tastes terrible but...?
my girlfriend always uses it as a substitute for regular milk in cooking, i can ALWAYS tell and it makes me feel sick to my stomach. is soy milk even supposed to be used as a substitute for actual milk in cooking? is it possable to be soymilk intolerant?
Answers:
I do not like soy either. However, if your girlfriend isn't allergic to regular milk, why not just ask her to switch. Another good subsitute for milk is Kefir.
You could be alergic to soy products. Do other soy items make you feel sick as well? You might want to consult your doctor.

Yes, it is possible. Like regular milk, I only drink Fat Free Milk. I can't do icecream, but I can do yogurt.
If your lack tost and tolerate (i dont no how to spell it) u have to. All i could advise u to do is ask ur gf to make ur meal with regular
I find that milk appeals to discriminating tastes and it's not just about digestion. I grew up with my mom changing our milk ever so often. I grew up on whole milk, but soon went down to 2%, 1%, 1/2%, and eventually skim milk. And after drinking skim milk for a while now, I can't go back to the other type. My favorite milks are white skim, chocolate, and strawberry. I have tried soy, it's good but not a favorite of mine.
Personally I agree with you. Soy milk tastes bad and leaves an "after taste" when used for cooking. I would suggest to talk to your girl friend and explain to her how it makes you feel. And yes, it is possible to have an allergy of sorts to soy.
i don't use soy milk for cooking
but the chocolate soy milk is tasty to drink
take care
Like someone said - you could be allergic to soy beans. But if you don't have an allergic reaction I would doubt it...you probably just don't like the taste. See what kind she is using too because vanilla can of course make the food sweet. I used to hate soy milk (sounds like as much as you) but then I tried soy dream (vanilla) and like it a lot. Almond milk is the BOMB. You should tell her about blue diamond almond milk.
But for cooking I would use a regular soy milk with no vanilla. And YES soy milk is the best substitute for cow's milk in cooking. Much better for you and the cows too!
You might also be turned off by it because you know its in there.... try not to think about it.
I'm with you, I like my milk to come from a cow, thank you very much! I don't think soy milk should be used anywhere, unless you are lactose intolerant which, thank goodness, I am not!!
try rice milk instead
soy milk shouldn't make you sick, but you could just be reacting to the taste.
For you soy freaks in here you can have it all.....I drink Milk cows Milk 4% whole milk, If I must use a nonfat type......it'll be powdered milk.
