Why do people put sugar on grapefruits?!
Why do people put sugar on grapefruits?
grapefruits already have enough natural sugar in them and taste great as is. it baffles me when i see people dump extra sugar on them.
Answers:
For the same reason people put salt on watermelon. They're insane.
Some peoples pallets cannot handle the slightly bitter undertone of a grapefruit. The sugar kills the bitterness and make it more pleasing to them.
It es the bitter taste out of the ones that aren't yet quite ripened
i find grapefruit has a kind of bitter/sweet taste..when sprinkle just a touch of sugar over the grapefruit..it takes that bitterness taste away* , absorbs into the juices of the grapefruit.....and yes you're correct in saying grapefruits have enough natural sugar in them already.....but to each and their own*
Some like milk and sugar in their coffee,..some prefer it black* To each and their own*
Some put syrup over pancakes, others use butter or jam.....some use nothing* ...to each and their own*
to some people they are a little bitter because their pallets are used to factorized sugary products and cant recognized all natural sweetness when they eat it.....preservatives have that disapointing effect on mother nature.....!!!
To some people don't like the sour taste but they try to eat them any way.I don't eat them at all.
well, for some a grapefruit is bitter (like me) and put sugar on it 2 make it taste loads better. i like sugar on my grapefruits for sure.
Good question--but I guess people's palates are different and some find grapefriut bitter. Some others put salt on them for the same reason.
Not me, I love the natural taste. Yum !
SOME PEOPLE ARE USED TO VERY SWEET FOODS AND OTHER PEOPLE LIKE THEY`RE FOODS NATURAL.I THINK ALOT HAS TO DO WITH THE WAY THEY WERE BRAUGHT UP.IF THEY`RE PARENTS HAD A SWEET TOOTH CHANCES ARE THEY PASSED THEY`RE BAD EATING HABITS DOWN TO THEIR CHILDREN. MY KIDS AND I LOVE GRAPEFRUIT.WITHOUT SUGAR.
Have you heard of supertasters?
A supertaster is an individual who lives in a more intense taste world. In some environments, heightened taste response, particularly to bitterness, would represent an important advantage in avoiding potentially toxic plant alkaloids. However, in other environments, increased response to bitter may have limited the range of palatable foods.
I know that some people can suck on lemons with no problem, where as if my tongue comes within an inch of one, my body tenses up just thinking about it.
Since this is the one fruit I can't manage to force myself to eat, I would say to you that some people experience the grapefruit as a very bitter or sour fruit, whether they're used to sweet foods or not. I eat a lot of vegetables (fresh, I live in a rural area and have a garden), and hardly any sweets at all. I even enjoy fresh limes more than grapefruits!
Because grapefruit tastes like c**t.... simple as that...
I do it because I want to think I'm eating something good for me, but I hate the taste so I add sugar to make it taste better....silly, I know.
