You see, my Dad keeps saying that you don't get poisonous mushrooms as a poisonous mushroom is a toadstool. Is that right? Cause I don't really see how the name matters. Mushrooms are gross anyway.

A mushroom is the fruit of a fungus, that grows upright and is self-supporting. A toadstool is generally any inedible mushroom, however only a few are actually poisonous. Therefore poisonous mushrooms are toadstools.

Curiously enough the antidote to the poisonous mushrooms we get in the UK (mostly amanitas) is deadly nightshade - but you have to get the quantities right!

Some edible mushrooms (e.g. the shaggy inkcap) become poisonous if you drink alcohol.

well the mushrooms the grow after rainfall are poisonous

Yes you can get Poisonous mushrooms

i have never eaten those, however, i have eaten the kind that gives you a hallucinatory effect. i do not know if these are considered to be poisonous.

Mushroom poisoning refers to symptoms that can vary from slight gastrointestinal discomfort to death resulting from ingestion of toxic substances present in a mushroom. The toxins present are metabolic byproducts produced by the fungus. Typically, mushroom poisoning is the result of an eater of wild mushrooms mistakenly identifying a toxic mushroom as a non-toxic or edible species. Because some edible and poisonous fungi have very similar appearances, mistakes are usually the result of misidentification based on superficial characteristics. Even very experienced wild mushroom gatherers are sometimes poisoned by eating toxic species, despite being well aware of the risks.

Yep some of them just make the world a strange place for a while and others can kill but it's not worth trying unless you know which are which and that's a Pixie secret!

Yes you can get poisonous mushrooms in the UK.

Be sure you know what you pick.

You won't get it in the market but you'll see a lot in the wild. The colourful mushroom are poisonous for sure. And there's a mushroom grew after rain, but people still risk their life eating it. The way that they used to cook it is stir fried it with ginger, if the ginger turns black it means it's poisonous, 100% not safe to eat.

You can loads of poisonous mushrooms, I had a book from the library which shows pictures of the safe ones to eat if your going mushroom picking...very interesting.
