Are watermelon leaves poisonous to eat?
I just found out that dandelion leaves are actually healthier than spinach leaves are! so I was just wondering on this because I grow them. thankx
Answers: I love dandelion and am waging a small war with my neighbors for my unwillingness to remove them from my yard. I am actually encouraging them.
Wash them first but you shouldn't be putting chemicals on your lawns anyways. Also the entire plant is tasty and worthwhile nutritionally.
As for watermelon leaves I can't say for sure but I am almost certain that it would be edible. The other parts of the plant are edible including the flesh, rind and seeds.
I would be careful with eating them because it will lessen your watermelon harvest. If you do try them start with blanching them and only have a small amount and see how it sits in your stomach. If all goes well, slowly increase and/or try raw. Back off if your stomach seems unhappy.
Please let me know if they are edible I would love to try a new green. There is no available nutrient data on the leaves as far as I can see, so who knows but most green is filled with nutrients. I'm not sure and i doubt they are but you never know.
they might be fine but like the tomato plant, they may not be. tomato leaves and stems ARE poisonous. obviously the fruit is not No but they are not a significant source of vitamins! I wouldn't eat it but you are right about dandelions just don't get them from the yard grow them or you risk eating bugs or pesticides! I tried to google that question and I couldn't find the answer...sorry no it sound ok to me good luck Judging by some of the answers I've seen around here that are so incredibly far off the mark it's scary (not by me or any of the regulars, OF COURSE), this is the last place I would ask someone if something was poisonous!
:P I don't know if they are poisonous but they don't sound edible. If they were, they would be sold. Dandelion leaves are great but best when young before the flower develops.
