Vegetarians, and those people who dont eat dairy,?!

Question:

Vegetarians, and those people who dont eat dairy,?

My question is what else do you eat? where do you get your protein, and was this your choice? or did your parents raise you to eat that way?, do you feel like your missing something?

Answers: I'm a vegan, meaning I don't take in any animal products including dairy. No, my parents did not raise me this way at all, it was a choice I made 6 months ago and have stuck to it ever since. I'm 17, btw and made the choice to be vegan after reading a book called Skinny B---?tch. Strange thing was, after I found out the book was aboout being vegan, I didn't want to read it anymore but I forced myself to because I didn't want to waste the money I spent. I'm glad I did too.

As for do I feel like I'm missing anything, no, not really. I feel like I get just about everything I want or can find a healthy vegan replacement. As for the protein thing...I still don't get why everyone thinks vegans don't get enough protein. Lots of things have protein. I've never actually met a vegan suffering from a lack of protein disorder either since many things vegans can eat contain soy which has protein. Not to mention you can get protein from other things such as beans. i was vegetarian for a while and i got protien from peanut butter and peanuts. No, vegains dont eat dairy products, i am a vevgetarian but i dont feel i lose anything by not eating meat! We get our protein from cheese and (fish- depending on the vegetarian) We eat beans like red, black, pinto and garbanazo, grains like rice (brown is best), millet, barley, amaranth, quiona and wheat. Tofu is made from soybeans but is much more versatile than a bean. Tempeh is also made from soybeans but totally different in texture and taste from tofu. There are commercially made mock meats like Boca burgers and chikn patties. All those foods are high in protein. Vegetables like broccoli, spinach, kale, swiss chard and cabbage all add vitamins to our diets and have a little bit of protein in them too. It's not a lot of protein in the veggies but some is there. There are dairy substitutes that even people who eat meat but due to allergies can't have dairy use. I drink Silk soymilk and would do so because of my allergy to dairy even if I wasn't vegan. It was totally my choice. I am missing something: that terrible feeling from knowing that an animal who was living the same as you and I and wanted to continue to live (they struggle when they're being taken to slaughter) as much as you and I, died. If you investigate practices in slaughterhouses, you'll discover it probably died in a most horrible way. If you think you'd like to become a vegetarian, I'd like to invite you to join the "Transitioning to Vegetarianism" yahoo group that I founded. When you fill in the joining statement, tell me "Yes, I want to investigate being vegetarian" and that I answered a question from you on Yahoo answers. I do warn you that if you think that you can join and then post abusive tirades against vegetarians, you will be "voted off the island" pdq. The group is totally safe from the rude, insulting comments that I see so often here on Yahoo answers! Vegetarians eat dairy, unless their strict or pure vegetarians. Strict vegetarianism is also know as Veganism and those who follow this form or type of vegetarianism are also known as vegans.

The three most common places vegans get protein from is peanuts, tofu, and soy. I eat anything that you eat, there are vegan alternatives to pretty much everything. They are not exactly like meat based meals, for example, you can make vegan meatloaf,it won't be exactly like meatloaf, but it can definetly still be good.

Protein isn't really an issue, have you ever heard of anyone with a protein deficiency? most likely ou haven't,because it is a hard thing to do.In North America,we actually have a problem of getting too much protein.

No,I wasn't raised this way,I chose to eat this way,and I would have to say it is one of the best choices I have made for myself.

No,I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything,it can be hard to eat out sometimes, but no,I don't feel like I'm missing out. Many vegetarians eat dairy. Protein is not only in meat by any means. whole grains, beans and nuts are fantastic ways to get protein and many other foods have it as well.

Missing something? Like what? Meat is rotting flesh and I have no desire to chew on that. Everybody says you get your protein from beans but I don't like beans all that much, nor do I like the flatulence so I eat no beans, not even soy products.

You can get plenty of protein just from eat ting potato's and rice and corn and nuts.

Then again it's true that after you get all the crap out of your diet, your body metabolizes protein more evidently so you don't need 25 grams a day even. It was my choice, for health reasons, after doing research.

I don't feel like I'm missing anything, and that's 'cause I'm not. You can get everything from any type of food. We've been conditioned to think meat is indespensible - to sell their product.

Everything has protein. I get most of mine from:

Oats
Quinoa
Walnuts
Bananas
Lettuce
Watermelon

You can eat alot of plant food, and I do. And I love it!

Here's a Fruitarian bodybuilder who lists what he eats and explains why it works:
http://www.charliesgym.info/wst_page2.ht... >what else do you eat?
um... everything .... dairy is only one thing on a whole planet... dairy/milk is for babies...

>where do you get your protein
where do YOU get YOUR protein?
where do gorillas get their's
where do all other plant eating mammals get their protein?
all living things are packed full of protein -- protein is the building block of life. How can you avoid protein? You'd have to eat rocks.

>and was this your choice?
it's the way things are.
Mother nature; god whatever...
My choice to not follow ignorance.
My choice to LEARN that humans are the only mammals that consume milk (cooked milk) from other animals from other species, before and after they have grown past the need for their mother's milk. Humans are the only animals that starve their children of mother's milk and force them to consume formula, or milk from other animals.

> or did your parents raise you to eat that way?
they ate the opposite way -- I saw the result -- and it's not pretty.

> do you feel like your missing something?
because of milk I had ear infections as a kid
because of milk I had my tonsils taken out
because of milk I have osteoporosis
because of milk many animals have suffered without my knowledge
because of milk I've suffered without my knowledge.
I don't miss the flavour of it. I do not miss dairy products because one can make ice-cream, drinks, cheeses, etc. all without dairy, if they had the desire to consume such things.

Giving up dairy was very easy.
Giving up super sweet sugary foods was much more difficult and took years to ween myself off of the sugar addiction, which I never knew I had until I tried to get rid of cheap sugary jams, syrups, sauces, snacks, candies... it's everywhere. But eating straight from my garden instead of processed foods put an end to my sugar cravings.
