Answers: PETA does so much to expose the way animals are exploited and tortured in slaughterhouses, laboratories, and fur farms. PETA has over 1.6 million members and is a registered non-profit organization. You can learn more about the organization on their website: http://www.peta.org/
PETA isn't wrong to try to protect animals. Companies that harm animals are wrong to profit off of extreme animal suffering. I don't really know what you're asking, but PETA is a great thing.
They are saving animals from harm which is really good. No. They sometimes go to extremes though. I think thats why they kind of have a bad reputation. No, of course not! I'm a huge supporter of PETA. They are a little extreme but I agree with them. I 100% support Peta! This organization has been at the forefront of the Animal Rights Movement. Thousands of animals have benefitted from their efforts. I received the other day a PETA magazine. And when I read it and saw the photos, I could not believe the horrible things that are done to the animals. To the baby chicks, the tips of their beaks a cut off. The teeth of the baby pigs are cut down and they are enclosed in cages that are smaller than them stacked cage on top of cage. I was the article on the abuse of a cow that would not get off the truck. I felt sorry for the cow and not even the sheriff did anything to help.
It is not wrong to protect animals. People eat chicken, turkey, beef and pork. The care, feeding and killing of these animals should be done in a proper manner so that they do not suffer in their short lives. That is why I do not go to KFC because of the terrible treatment of the chickens. I am the vegetarian princess and I am a PETA contributor. Everybody should join forces to stop animal cruelty. Of course not. They are only in the wrong if they allow fanatic, extremist members to break the law. Yes, they do try to protect animals but sometimes they do really crazy things. Like they'll kill of a mass amount of pets just because they say they couldn't find loving homes...Plus they do tend to go to some extremes. I'm not even sure if all they do is legal.
But I think they have a good message, but over all, I would never be part of their organization. No, I don't think they are wrong to try and protect animals.
The only experience I have had with PETA was receiving some info at a concert. It was full of horrible graphic shock type propoganda. I suppose to shock/ guilt trip people into becoming Vegos?
I suppose it might make some people think about it, but it can also backfire by repelling people who are intimidated by the extemety. I think resources could be better spent somehow enabling people to help protect more animals.
Similar to anti-abortion folks (NOT trying to open a can of worms/ debate here!) I wish more energy was put into helping girls find hope and loving homes and peace and somewhere real to turn to for help, rather than just spewing guilt & shame. Unfortunately there is a lunatic fringe that is part of PETA, just like we have the same fringe on the V&V forum. Some of their tactics and distortion of the facts are, IMO, bordering on criminal. I believe there are other groups that are much more effective and respectable than PETA.
I can attest that PETA did very little to help animals post-Katrina. I know first hand that is true, because I was there. There were a few, but the SPCA was out in full force.
IMO PETA is ineffective because the politicians, whether they are right or wrong, disregard them as a bunch of crazies. And the truth is if you can't reach the ear of the politicians, nothing is going to change. Well, I used to support PETA...and their thoughts are good, but I think they take things too far sometimes. If you're looking for a good group to join...join the Humane Society of the U.S... (HSUS)... they're a good group and fight for all animal rights! :-D
http://www.hsus.org/ It's how they go about it. I would like to second the person who said PETA did nothing in post-Katrina conditions. They didn't. Not like the SPCA, and even military units. There were a few PETA but largely ineffective and not organized. They are extremists who con money from the crazies who believe their propaganda. They are not wrong. What do they do that is bad? Break into laboratories, liberate animals, "traumatize" children. WELL GUESS WHAT??? The labs DESERVE to be broken into for their crappy care of animals, the animals DESERVE to be liberated for all the torture they've undergone, and they wouldn't HAVE to "traumatize" the children if the ADULTS that BLAME them didn't SUPPORT the industry that CAUSES PETA to "traumatize" them!!
LONG LIVE PETA! The problem with PETA, is that they take it to the extremes. Yes, the truth is out there, but PETA has alot of controversy attached to it. Do some research, independant of PETA, such as factoryfarming.org, which presents the facts in a less harsh, but still reality based light. Being overzealous with a cause is what causes people to not accept the ideas being presented. Gain the knowledge, learn the facts, but dont just blindly accept "facts" from one radical group. Use the information you learn to form your own opinion. After I did so, I chose to go total vegetarian-but, my decision (and my young daughters) was based on FACT, not HYPE. To me, PETA has the right idea, but the wrong approach. No, they just have a few radical members that give them a bad reputation and sometimes they like to exaggerate and be a bit elitist. Overall, their heart is in the right place. PeTA does nothing to protect animals PeTA vaules a rat or mice over the life of a baby. PeTA does not want anyone to have pets or eat meat. I 100% love PETA. Emotions take over and you're making decisions from the back of your brain. PETA is correct in their ideology IMHO but falling from the grace of intelligent mature behavior is always harmful to all parties.
It's particularly true in this case as vegans otherwise advertise their ideology by glowing with health and energy and who doesn't want that?
Peace. Peta has been exposed as supporting fear tactics and terrorism to get their message across. Not only that they go against their own dogmatic stances.
In 2005 PETA employees were charged with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty each, after authorities found them dumping the dead bodies of 18 animals they had just picked up from a North Carolina animal shelter into a Dumpster. According to the Associated Press, 13 more dead animals were found in a van registered to PETA.
There have also been more serious allegations of association with known terrorists, and are possibly facing suspension of their tax exemption status.
I have no respect for them or their tactics.
Please read the articles in the links that I have posted. Hopefully you guys might change your mind about how "great" PETA is. They are if they get too extreme and break the law, which I've heard they have done. peta is making so much money off of people like you who actually believe they care about anything else, it's not even funny. I’m opposed to puppy mills, and ranchers with a temper.
I’m opposed to adults who purchase puppies, kittens, chicks, and bunnies for gifts, not giving a thought that they grow up.
PETA projects their beliefs and wants on others through intense measures that are counter productive.
PETA preys on a persons want to do something good. Their use of extreme propaganda that can be challenged and then eventually dulls the senses of people, is lowering the public awareness of cruelty.
To answer your question; PETA is wrong to claim they are doing it for the animal’s sake. They are only spinning their wheels getting themselves and others upset. It depends how they go about it. Do you believe that their activists are right in committing criminal acts such as harming and intimidating human beings, breaking and entering, criminal damage and others, in order to set animals free.
Was it right when an animal activist group (maybe PETA, maybe not) Freed a group of mink from a farm. The mink then went on their own killing spree, decimating the local wildlife.
Or when they freed some rabbits, who then went on to drink from a contaminated stream. The whole lot of them, 100 or more died (The rabbits were having drugs tested on them which made them thirsty as a side effect).
PETA in my opinion dont hold much reguard for anything. They are just thugs and idiots who like causing trouble and use 'animal rights' as a mask to hide behind I'm a supporter of peta, they do so much for animal welfare and yes they can be extreme in their campaigns but i think you have to be to get noticed and get the message across that animals need our help and we won't put up with animal abuse of any kind. no and yes, sometimes they go a bit too far in their ideals....
cruelty is bad, but using animals for materials (research, food, fabric..) isn't
and banning fox hunting is bad, ever seen an animal die from a shot wound or posioning? and fur coats? beautiful... Well, I wouldn't consider protecting animals to be wrong.
But here is my problem with PETA
OK, Peta has a lot of informational sites, that I have no problem using or recommending to anyone. But I don't exactly trust Peta for a couple of reasons...
First, like any other organization, they usually have some kind of ulterior motive, or agenda.
Second, recently I saw one of their sites (vegcooking/dining/fast food alternatives- http://www.vegcooking.com/vegfastfood.as... I wouldn't suggest taking any advice from this site!
What caught my eye first was them recommending the BK veggie burger... which IS NOT vegan!... now why would they suggest something like that?... because they are hypocrites.
What really got me mad was seeing them suggest ordering at McDonalds... McDonald’s fries are not even vegetarian! And they (PETA) actually recommend ordering from a place that serves Beef flavored fries...w/o even warning people about the nasty fries!
They obviously have more things on their "to do" list, then just protecting animals... things like supporting fast food chains without even warning people about the vegetarian/vegan status of the food!
It honestly makes me sick, and I would not put my trust in Peta.
Another thing that ticks me off about them is their lack of nutrition information on their websites...
Ok rant over :]
