Why should we wash & peel tomatoes first?!

Question:

Why should we wash & peel tomatoes first?

Answers: A uppy may hv piss'd on them, or there may be pesticides sprayed on the skin that could make you sick if you don't kosher the tomatoe!!! Because you think they are potatoes? Who peels tomatoes? Washing them cleans off any stuff; but there's no reason to peel them unless you're using them in a recipe that calls for peeled tomatoes. The peel contains tons of nutrients. It's good for you. I just wash them. I don't peel tomatoes. Because they are thin skinned and can pick up the pesticides easily. Also the people picking them sometimes work in unsanitary conditions, so please at least wash them. well it's good to wash anything you're going to put in your mouth.

I said ANYTHING.

=)

As far as peeling..hmm. Perhaps for authentic spaghetti sauce. Or if your phobic about skin..but that has good stuff in it.

I used to peel the skins of of grapes when I was younger. Yea it took a while to eat a bunch of grapes..

shrug. I was young haha.

Ever peeled a grape though? they look sooo cool. =) you shouldn't most of the vitamins and beta carotene are in the peel. wash them for sure, peeling is optional, mostly done in fine dining restaurants when one doesn't want the skin coming off and curling up in the sauce for a pasta...

if you want to peel them easily, use a paring knife to cut out the stem core, then turn over and cut an X in the bottom, plunge into boiling water for about 10 -15 seconds, and put immediately into ice water. the skin will slip off like a glove, leaving the rest of the tomato uncooked. Hye, according to me we have to wash tomatoes first . During farming lots of pesticides & insecticides are sprayed on the crop to get maximum yield but it is very much harmfull for our health & can cause various diseases. SO we have to wash &clean the vegetables properly. And then u can peel the tomato or any vegetable easily. All vegetables need to be washed before cooking.
The reason I peel tomatoes is that I have been told that the skin and seeds are hard to digest.
