Answers: If you have been a non-veg until now and if you dont have any significant problem consuming non-veg, I dont think there is any need for you at this age to go veg.
If at all you are that cautious, you may cut down on red meats -
beef, pork and lamb! In this case, you may also cut down on shrimps, prawns, lobsters, crab because these are high in cholesterol but having these once in a while should not do any harm at your age. Chicken should be OK - avoid the skin as it contains lot of fat and oil. Fish is very beneficial for our body, specially that it contains Omega acids (Omega 3, Omega 6), which are very hard to find in land based foods.
After any illness or for any other reasons, to boost up the body, doctors will suggest non-veg soups like Chicken or Mutton or Fish Soup etc. (not veg soups).
If at all you need to become veg for whatever reasons, then to maintain your health, you may include in your diet, almonds, cashewnuts etc nuts; sunflower, aniseed etc seeds, dried grapes, plums etc., olives, dates, dairy products, 100% pure bee honey (locally made honey and dark in color is better).
Another source of many vitamins, trace elements etc good for our body, are the sea vegetables called Seaweed like Dulse, Arame, Kelp, Wakame, Nori etc. Roasted Seaweed YakiNori can be eaten without cooking. This is the green sheet which is used to wrap Japanese Sushi etc.
Have a balanced diet, exercise and wish you a healthy life! Try vegweb.com or vegcooking.com. They both have great recipes and tips on be veggie!
Good luck! I bought the book bdecoming vegetarian. Very informative. Check amazon or your local bookstore for more info. Best of luck to you! Congrats! I'm 15 now and have been a vegetarian since I was 14. Don't replace a lot of meat with cheese...but do eat some cheese. Even if you are still eating dairy, soy milk is good in protein! I love the SILK brand. If you love fruit...blend 1 cup of soymilk (any flavor), ice, a cup any fruit...and you have a good fruit soy smoothie! For protein, soymilk, nuts, granola bars, edimomi, fruit, beans, etc. Good luck and I would read "A Teenager's Guide To Going Vegetarian"...it helped me! GOOD LUCK and GRRREAT CHOICE! :-D
