I have a block of TOFU and i dont know what to do with it!!!?
any ideas...recipes???
thank you!!!!! im so hungry!!!!!!!!
Answers: You could cut it up into cubes and fry it up with some garlic and soy sauce. When it's fried to your liking, add in some broccoli or other vegetable and cook it until the vegetables are done.
Or you can make a tofu salad sandwich my mashing up some tofu, mixing in some mayo or veganaise, and adding spices like tumeric, dill, chili powder, basil, whatever you feel like. I think mine ends up different every time. Sometimes I use mustard instead of mayo for color and flavor. Don't forget salt and pepper to taste!
Another easy idea is tofu scramble. Crumble up the tofu and fry it. If you want it to be like tacos, add chili powder and other spices, add up to 1 cup of water, and about 1 tsp of cornstarch (to thicken the sauce). Play around with this. You could use crumbled tofu as scrambled eggs for breakfast, or like tacos as I suggested. Play around with it! ^^ slice it thinly and grill it. enjoy with a side or a salad! tofu is soy protein...
chop it up, and put it on top of a mixed, green salad...
use it in a vegetable stir fry...
fry it, and make a "fried tofu" sandwich out of it... fry it up in some olive oil with carrots and onions over some brown rice! (cook the onions in the oil til they're see through then add the carrots, after they're soft put in the tofu) Throw it away and cook a hot dog. Grilling tofu is really hard, if it's too soft it will stick to the grill, and burn, and not cook well, and fall through. The easiest, and best way to cook tofu is to make a stir fry. cut the tofu into big cubes, like 1"x1", then put some (maybe 5 or 6 tablespoons?) oil in a big frying pan or wok. The best oil is peanut oil, second best is olive oil, but if all you have is vegetable oil, that's fine. heat the oil on medium then throw in the tofu. if it starts sticking, add a little more oil and scrape off with a spatula. turn the cubes until they are browning on all sides. add some vegetables, some spices (I like ginger, white pepper, lots of garlic, sugar, soy sauce, and a little vinegar) good stuff. serve over rice or noodles! if you have no other ingredients, just slice up the tofu, cover with some sort of sauce or marinade, put on a cookie sheet, and throw it in the oven for 20 or 30 minutes. that's good too. Throw it away. Yuk. I know they put it in egg flower soup sometimes. Just heat up some chicken broth to boil. Slowly whisk in a well beaten egg. Add green onion and tofu. Ewwww. marinade_ - do this in lemon pepper, buffalo teriaki, or your favorite saladressing for 3 hours. then grill pan fry or bake MMM deliciouse! also good stuffed in veggies Cut it into thin, small squares, half the size of a hash brown, fry it in oil, turning it regularly, and add dark soy sauce on top of the tofu as you go. Then throw finely-chopped onion or spring onion into the pan and the onion will stick to the tofu. After you've fried the tofu thoroughly, serve either on its own or with plain boiled or steamed rice. cut it up and put it in your pasta! I like scrambled tofu, just partially mix together some onions, tomatoes etc and fry them for about 2minutes on low heat, add all your seasonings to the onion mix and then add the already cut tofu , just use a fork and crush it, mix it up, add a little bit of water so its not too dry and your good to go Wrap it in paper towels to absorb the excess moisture, set like 10 minutes. Then unwrap and cut into slices. In a frying pan, heat olive oil, hot pepper sesame oil and soy sauce (or braggs amino acids). Add tofu slices, sprinkle with spices - garlic, kelp, curry, turmeric, Spike, what ever you have in the cabinet.
Fry until golden brown..... crispy or not. Serve with a veggie and your favorite rice. Trade it for some beef. sorry i don't know too???
