Do most vegans really suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Why are they so STRESSED?!

Question:

Do most vegans really suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Why are they so STRESSED?

I know vegans that are JUST LIKE THAT. You name it they STRESS over whether an animal was involved or hurt by making it. Of course food, but shoes, clothes, car interiors, hats, anything made of leather, and the list goes on and on. So many areas of their life that dictate what, when, where, and how they will conduct themselves. It's like they're prisoners, and always stressed instead of enjoying life. That cannot be healthy for the HEART.

Obviously I hit a nerve. In fact many nerves. It is fact that many vegans, (not all) but many have turned their veganism into a false religion which ONLY serves to justify their vain attempt at self-righteousness. And there is no mistake that many people professing to be vegans are obsessed, compulsive, and controlled by their choice to be vegan. Which is an oxymoron. A choice is of freewill, not of control, or it ceases to be a choice.

1 TIMOTHY 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5. For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Then there's clarity regarding meat in
1 Corinthians 8:8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

My meat is blessed through prayer

My meat is blessed through prayer If someone is both vegan and obsessive/compulsive, it is more likely that the veganism is one of the symptoms of the disorder, than the cause. Veganism is a strict discipline, and can attract control addicts as well as o/c syndrome sufferers.

VEGANS this is not an attack on you, but a reasoned observation that SOME people rationalize their neurotic behavior. Hitler was a vegetarian. Morality is not a measure of diet. Most vegans I know were messed up in that way before they went vegan.
They didn't have good reasons to enjoy life and now they have a reason not to. First and foremost artpsycho.... people who have ocd and are vegans are not " messed up". That was a very inconsiderate response to someones question. Maybe next time you should research your answer before posting a response.
Secondly the real answer to this question is psychological. I suffer from ocd and I am a vegan as well. I strongly believe that because someone has ocd they choose to do other things in there life that they know they can control. Just like some people are anorexic because it is something that they can control in their lives. I can't control the ocd in my life but I can control not eating meat. Does that make sense to you?
Any other questions feel free to ask me about this. Hopefully you will not respond to "artpsychos" rude response. I agree 100% with Chassidy H. Also, the people I do know with ocd are all meat eaters, including my sister. Wouldn't hurt for you all to do a little research before you open your mouth! Oh yes, and if you really want to learn something about eating meat, I reccomend the following dvd, "Earthlings."
I'm sure it will change your mind about eating meat! I don't know any vegans with OCD. Sometimes vegans think that they need to be completely cruelty-free and spend too much time worrying about very insignificant animal ingredients (like gelatin or sugar processed through animal bones). Most of the vegans I know are very happy, well-adjusted people... they don't sweat the small stuff, and they don't worry about being "pure" or "perfect". Vegans should remember that veganism is just a means of reducing animal suffering; it's not an end in itself. I find it ironic that you comment that stressing out over whether we're contributing to animal cruelty can't be good for the heart considering that animal products are pretty much proven to be THE main cause of heart disease.

Once you learn the truth about what animals go through for human consumption, use, and entertainment it's really hard to put it out of your mind. Remember that people who have commited themselves to NOT contributing to animal suffering have probably seen a lot of videos and read a lot of material that the average person might not have been exposed to and so it is much more REAL to us. Add to that that we've most past the denial and come to terms with our guilt for spending years being part of the machine, well, it's hard not to obsess on it.

I'm pretty consumed with some of the things I've learned regarding health and the real dangers of eating animal products. I've read some studies that are just horrifying when you consider that the average person doesn't know about them and that doctors don't tell their patients about them and that the GOVERNMENT doesn't advocate not eating animal products. I'm talking about studies that pretty much PROVE that not eating animal products will reduce some cancers 80-90% and can reverse heart disease and so much more it would blow your mind. And it's not some crazy guy doing these studies; it's a professor of nutrition at Cornell who has spent most of his adult life doing research on nutrition and protein. How do you not tell everyone you know about that? See...? Once you know about some of this stuff it's easy to be obsessed. *sigh*

I'd rather be stressed a bit and live a longer, healthier life knowing I'm doing the right thing.

I also suspect most people who are stress cases like me are new to the lifestyle and will calm down over time.

How kind of you to be concerned, though.
:/ OCD from your perspective could be skewed. Perhaps you're just overwhelmed by how aware they are of their enviroment and you can't comprehend doing such routinely and being operational. It's really not ocd, its called I don't consider it an option. You're the prisoner because you lack the mental inclination to exceed where you're at and reach in to understand how others lead their lives differently from yours.

My heart is doing fine. It's a crazy concept that some people out there discipline themselves right? for real/ haha.. Most vegans i know are vegans simply out of a need to live by their conscience. It seems to me by your question that you are trying to avoid your conscience by labeling vegans as somehow crazy, and excusing yourself for not caring about anmal cruelty. Your vegan friends aren't "stressing", truly they are just thoughtful people. They take time to consider how their decisions impact the world and live accordingly. They are not content to let society or taste or convention or tradition do the thinking for them. They think for themselves and they give a crap, so give them a break. All vegans know it is good for the heart knowing that you are making efforts in your daily life to reduce suffering in the world. These are not all vegans. The vegan path is often followed by people who are looking for a purpose and so doing this provides some form of achievement in their lives.

OCD is common to all groups just not everyone has it.

Sometimes people get all wrapped up in their own worlds and need to be thrown back in to real life by their friends.
Next time a vegan friend starts to stress tell them to look after the most important animal first before the watch out for others.
The human animal. Stressing yourself out like that aint helping your blood pressure and is shortening your own lifespan which is more important than a cows lifespan. those ppl aren't all vegans, they just care about animal rights. im a vegan but i am never stressed
