If smokers boycotted pubs for six months, how many pubs would close?
Answers: Most all of them would close. The bar owners in my hometown, in Northern Ohio, know that the ban will kill business. As of now, most of the bars are just ignoring the smoking ban, and allowing smokers to smoke. 2 loads. Lets all do it!!!! lol A lot of them would fold..I dont think the landlords are happy about all this and its just another example of a police state and p.c gone mad.. ..shall we do it and see? all of them None because pretty soon everyone would realise what bliss it is to sit in a smoke free atmosphere - just been to the pub and it was really pleasant! Dude people don't do that anymore and if they do no one cares.
Now if you picketed the Breweries and didn't let the lorries deliver booze then you might have some success.
Remember they own most of the bars anyway. Hit the fat cats in the pocket and then you will see the government jump like a cat jabbed in the butt with a red hot poker.
remember the petrol crisis? none it would just give police the chance to nick more people 8/ Most of them. But you know the answer to this.
I gave up smoking 2 years ago.
Only for health and expense reasons.
Im not sure now that this is a good idea.
Surely the issue here is choice.
They have removed your choice.
There are more than enough places to go for ex smokers like me, so why ban it in ALL PUBS.
Within the next ten years they will start on the drinkers.
I don't know. You wouldn't even put a dent in one. 50% None.. The landlord would just find some gimmick to get non smokers in the door! None - their places would be taken by non-smokers who have been put off in the past by smoke and brown stains on everything. None would close because all the non-smokers could then go out for a nice evening down the Pub without coming home smelling like an ashtray!
I don't mind anyone having a cigarette if they wish, but I don't like to have to inhale their smoke due to asthma problems, but I do like to go out occasionally to a pub for a meal or to meet up with friends. I also enjoy a game of Bingo and am really thankful for the ban as our local Bingo hall is normally full of smoke, with no extractor fans and it spoils my enjoyment most of the time. Now I can enjoy this night out too. Most places have designated places for smokers to have a cigarette if they wish, so please don't be too angry about the ban.
I used to smoke until I became asthmatic and now I find it very distressing to breath in smokey fumes, so the habit cannot do anyone any good so far as health is concerned. I hope the regular smokers will understand and maybe they will be healthier too if they have to cut down on the habit a bit now. As in the case of Scotland and Ireland, smokers will start to return after about 3 months. non smokers never become regulars and pubs that didn't prepare for it will lose 1/6 of their trade. Clever landlords will lay-off q/6 of their staff. preferably the mouthy barmaids who've been banging on about the ban for months but don't seem to care their idiot boyfriends smoke. NONE none would. more non smokers would be happy and come out. It hasnt hurt business in NY state bars or restaurants not that many, people would still go if the booze was good or the food was good. People would just smoke outside A lot, most likely. But it depends on how you define smokers.. I know people who only smoke when they're at the bar. Should they boycott too?
I know that there are some bars in New York that are just paying the fines to let people smoke indoors.. apparently the fines (something along the lines of 20,000$) are less then the extra money they're bringing in from smokers. YAY for them! If California can serve as an example then not many. California was one of the first U.S. states to pass a complete ban on smoking in public gathering places (bars, offices, food establishments, etc.) about ten years ago. The impact on business was negligible at worst. Despite dire predictions by food & liquor industry, few, if any, businesses closed as a result of the ban. Our restaurants are still popular and people still drink. Drunk driving laws have had a far greater impact on bar & restaurant alcohol sales than banning smoking ever has. It doesnt bother me much either way, but I live in Phoenix and its HOTTER than S_IT in the summer so I can see why people were kinda peed off. I doubt I'll see any boycotting either in 114 degrees. No one complains about options being taken away until it is one of THEIR options. NONE
Smokers are minority in the general population. While Pubs would hurt temporarily as a group smokers don't have the resolve to follow through. Look how many of them have failed attempts at quitting smoking. all of them i like a drink and a ciggi at the same time dont see why someone shouldstop that. i can understand resturants but pubs and clubs. Here in Scotland, some pubs and hotels have seen an increase in trade because people who would'nt normally go to these places because of the amount of filthy cigarette smoke, go now!! I don't think any would take much notice. It's more down to the political view and in my opinion its their way of turning us into social outcast so we feel petty/ridiculous for standing outside the pub (coz lets face it everyone knows why we're there!!) But they won't take the fags off the market!
Admittedly the only good thing to come from the smoking ban is i can chat and meet people outside the doors that i wouldn't usually speak to without the racket of the music! Its simple, if you were planning to go out with some friends, just got a load of booe from the supermarket, which will be 70% cheaper than a pub or club, gather round yours or a freinds house, were you can drink and smoke till your hearts content!! Loads probably, as smoking has always been a social thing hasn't it, I gave up 8 years ago and i'm so glad I did, hurray for the smoking ban, no more smelly hair and clothes when going for a drink and breathing it in aswell i always got a sore throat when being around smokind, hopefully they will put fags up even more so people can't afford them and ban it totally out of this world, so everyone can be more healthier. Give up you smokers out there you will end up getting cancer, but I will say this if you have been smoking for more than 40 years don't give up as this will cause cancer don't ask me how but I heard it from a GP. All of 'em.
