Answers: First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You officially rock now for giving vegetarianism a try. That being said, staying healthy is easy. Just make sure that you eat enough calories a day to fulfill your necessary requirements and you'll have plenty of energy. About the getting sick thing, I don't think that there's any truth in that what so ever, vegetarianism is much better for your body so by switching to it you should feel BETTER and not worse! You might consider investing in a good vegetarian multi-vitamin, because that's sort of a safety net to make sure you get all of your minerals and vitamins every day. Eat anything and everything that you want. People think that vegetarians just eat carrots and broccoli all day but that's definitely not the case. For example, today I ate soy yogurt and instant oatmeal for breakfast, leftover enchiladas made with a fake cheese sauce and soy based meat for lunch, and I haven't decided on dinner yet but it'll be something else wonderful. Eat what you love and love what you eat, just leave the animals out of it. It's a really easy diet, especially if you have enough money to buy all of the fake meat products (Boca burgers, fake bacon, even fake scrambled eggs!). If you're broke like me though, there's still potatoes, pasta, veggies, beans, bread, pizza, you name it! Good luck. Source(s):
Check these websites for great recipes. http://www.allrecipes.com (they have a really big assortment of vegetarian recipes)
http://www.vegweb.com (all vegan stuff, and generally easy and cheap to make!)
http://www.theppk.com (a punk oriented cooking site)
http://www.vegcooking.com (I think it's an offshoot of Peta) Switch Back. Eat some animal crackers. I am like you.... I haven't been at this for very long. I didn't get sick at all and I ate meat everyday at every meal. As a matter of fact, I feel great. Search the Internet for healthy vegetarian recipes. Like right now. It takes a while before you start feeling the affects, but start eating right, have a lot iron-rich foods. Also, when you eat those, drink anything with a lot of vitamin C. It helps keep the iron in your blood longer, which will help you stay healthy. Get cookbooks and make it a point to try everything you see in it. Don't be afraid to try new things. As long as you do that, you'll be fine.

By the way, a vegetarian doesn't eat meat, so don't get fooled by the dummies. But, I'm sure you knew that. lol well it does depend on the person

maybe u can eat rice
with a salad or something

just eat lots of vegies and nuts
also fruits

exercise while ur at it
but dont over do it beacuse unless ur eating protein u might get really sick u could eat veggie burgers and vegetables and almost anything that doest have to do with meat I became vegetarian at the age of 6. I didn't get sick either. What I do keep healthy is eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and drink a lot of water. Eat a balanced porportion of rice and eat yogurt in the morning. Since it contains milk, you get calcium as well. Maybe you can do what I do in the morning, I eat a bowl of mixed fruit with yogurt. Drink either milk or fruit juice in the morning. Since we don't eat meat, we need to substitute meat with beans, peanuts, and any other kind of nuts to get our protein. Its not easy being a vegetarian, but at least we save a few animals. Defiantly drink lots of water and take Vitamin C this way the things that would protect you from colds you can get with Vitamin C supplements. Try Emergency-C or if you go to Costco they have chewable ones that you can take and they taste really good. If you are Lacto Vegetarian try to drink a glass of milk everyday. But if your not you can try calcium supplements.
Also Cliff bars are great their made of only Organic foods and Soy beans YUMMY
Hope this helps. Also try to eat Apple, Almonds and Watermelon. These are the most healthy things in the world.
Whole grain bread. You say you lack energy... hmmm
Considering the question raised once by a vegetarian bodybuilder, "What's stronger than a Rhino or Elephant, and faster than a race horse?" I absolutely have to conclude that you are in-fact eating junk food.
I would suggest that you do an Internet search on the "Vegetarian Food Pyramid" and try to follow that as best you can. Eat your grains, eat your veggies & fruits, etc... leave the sugary and salty and greasy snacks for just that, occaisional snacks and not your main dishes.
I became a vegetarian in 1994; I did not get sick... (only sick of ingnorant people who think one must or should eat meat {flesh}). It will be something to get used to, and yes your body will go through withdrawl symptoms. We are primates and even though humans have been eating meat for 2.5 million years and some higher apes partake of an occaisional fleshy meal, our digestive systems are not evolved/designed for consumption of meat. It is like a "drug" in this sense -- carbohydrates provide the energy the body needs (not protein like the meat production companies would have us all believe); it also makes one lazy and more aggressive.
