Pescaterian, since this March, I've given up on all meat (even chicken and gelatin!) except for seafood....?!

All this was cold turkey (pardon the pun), I stumbled upon the peta site and let's just say the rest was history. I don't even drink milk anymore (but am guilty for using it on occassion for some baking recipes). I want to take the next step but I don't know where to start. I don't know why, when I went cold turkey on the other meats. Also my husband is a avid meat eater and that makes it harder when trying to cook meatless meals, which I do about 3x's a week. Any advice? And any sites for some good vegetarian recipes.( I usually sift through the food network site for veg. recipes, which can get daunting) thanks!
Answers: I'm really happy for you Rayne! I think it's a really powerful moment when you realise you want to do this.
http://www.vegweb.com has a good recipe base
As does http://www.vegan-food.net
Searches on Amazon will also turn up a huge pile of vegetarian cookbooks.
I came from a very meat happy family as a child, but I'm pleased to report that both my parents are now vegan! So there is hope for your husband!
I hope it's not upsetting for you to have to cook his meat, maybe it's time he did the cooking if he wants it so much.
If you want to open his eyes to vegetarianism, or at least the idea that veggie food can be YUMMY - I'd suggest trying out alot of the wonderful veggie meat alternatives that taste alot like the real thing. I've not tried it, but have heard that Garden Burger products are great, particularly their Prime Riblets which I've been told taste just like the real thing!
One last thing, there are many vegetarian communities online that will be supportive to you even though you are not fully there yet, since you say you want to take the next step. There are many people on this site http://www.veggieboards.com including people in the exact same position as you! Source(s):
Experience, vegan. My mom eats meat, and I'm the one who usually does the cooking, but when I became vegan and cooked vegan meals she thought it tasted great. As for taking the next step, I think you should just go cold turkey again, I think it's the best way to go. By the way, soy milk works well in baking recipes. You might even want to just buy a book too on vegan cooking at your local book store.
As for sites, I don't use any sites that are specifically made for vegan foods. I go to www.allrecipes.com and they have a large amount of good vegan dishes if you just search for the word vegan. Plus, there's user reviews on there too so you can know what to do to alter the recipe or be given ideas if the recipe is good or not. Even their recipes with meat can be altered if you just use vegetarian meat instead. My boyfriend also happens to be a meat eater and when I first became vegan, I made vegan spaghetti with fake meat without telling him, and he didn't even notice.
Good luck on becoming a full vegetarian. You might even want to consider becoming a full vegan later on. It's not so bad and I don't miss a thing. www.vegweb.com
saved me many a night thinking of what to cook lol
