I don't use dairy so this was a real eye-opener on soy's invasion of our food culture. I am currently experiencing thyroid problems that I'm certain were, at the very least, aggravated by soy consumption. I don't know if soy actually caused the thyroid problems, but I do have my suspicions. I'd google thyroid and soy if you're curious. I heard that it's not what it's cracked up to be, plus it gives guys breasts (just like lavender does). One "rumored" side effect for men is "man breasts" as it supposedly redcues testosterone. Unless eaten whole (e.g. edamame) it does not have the fiber of other legumes. Whatever the down side may be it beats the heck out of meat! Yes, indeed. Considering most soy in the US and UK has been genetically modified to the point it is no longer a natural products, and its the leading cause in the huge rise in adult onset allergies. I developed extreme allergies to wheat, soy, eggs, corn, and other foods because of these altered foods. Soy is in most everything, so having a soy allergy is really hard. Google "roundup ready soy" for more info. The whole GMO food thing is really scary-the DNA of scorpions has no business in a head of cabbage! Many people who consume alot of soy develop allergies to other things, because of the DNA splicing. What worse is that most people are completely unaware that the vegetables and fruits they but come from genetically modified crops-its not required to be labeled. Most of the stuff you find in the produce aisle has been genetically tampered with. The biggest problem is likely over-exposure to soy products, some of which are genetically modified. Since a lot of processed foods now use it for various reasons, sometimes as just a filler to save money. That would lead to excessive amounts in the diet.
The best thing is to use basic foods and avoid too many processed foods.
Edit- For example, most of the sandwiches at Burger King and McDonalds have soy in them. I assume it is some additive to the breads or something. See their website on allergy information. yes, very dark side!
look at this link for a lot of other links & info on the truth about soy & soy products!
http://www.google.com/custom?domains=mer... I'd like to say that article is interesting but I've seen it all before. It's entirely based on anti-veg, pro-meat ramblings from the weston price foundation board member kaayla daniel! Weston price was set up by dairy/meat industry shills to put out anti-veg/anti-soy propaganda from a foundation that appeared to be independent of the animal trade industry. It's pretty neat the way they worked the scam! Rather than take direct payments from companies like Hormel, the company gets it's executives to join weston price (at inflated membership rates) then reimburses the executives for their dues! Sneaky huh?
If you'd like I can 'point by point' show the error in every one of the claims made in the article (but that makes for an insanely long answer<g>). I will point out one outrageous racist comment made in the article. ""We fare better when we eat according to our ethnicity."..." That's the level of 'intelligence' these buffoons posses! Imply that dark, dirty evil soy is for Asians but keep it away from us pure, clean western people<LOL>.
Oh, the third answer you got is from a weston price shill! They like to make idiotic claims about scorpion poison in plants but don't want to mention that it's only in labs (not commercial production). I suppose that means I should stoop to their level and point out that cows in Tennessee have human genes in them so that they can give human breast milk<LOL> (It's TRUE! But only in laboratories).
