Is being a vegetarian bad for health?!

Question:

Is being a vegetarian bad for health?

Answers: no

meat and dairy raises your risk of getting cancer so best to avoid it Source(s):
lots and lots of research Any unbalanced diet is bad for health. Everyone, vegetarian or other, has to watch what they eat to maintain good health. You need to make sure that you are getting all the essential nutrients and that you are getting the right combination of protein. But if you take care with what you eat it's perfectly healthy. not really like being a vegetarian doesn't mean give up all meat like..... you can have fish and chicken but that's it hope you like my answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... No. I am a vegetarian, my boyfriend is a vegetarian, my mother is a vegetarian, my sister and brother and my father are all vegetarians and so are a lot of my friends, and other people that I know.

Being a vegetarian is most certainly NOT bad for you're health. As long as you provide you're body with the basic nutritional necessities, then you will be healthy.

X-x-X Luv Ya's X-x-X If god wanted you to be a vegetarian he would not have provided us cows. Nothing like a tender rib eye steak from Sam's Club! As long as you eat stuff like Quorn it should be ok, also eat fish oils stuff like that? Guess that would be right, but i'm no doc! I have spent most of my life trying to diet and therefore I have mainly avoided meat as it is quite fattening to say the least - I live on things like vegetable soup and salads!!! I recently had all the tests done for my French insurance and the doctor said that whatever I was doing I should keep it up as my health and cholesterol and everything else is A1.....I'm in my 40's so I would say that a veggy diet is good for you. no you just have to get all the protien by eating other things cuz your missing that part of your diet. so as long as get the protien needed you should do fine No, why ever would it be. Meat is loaded with cholesterol, steroids, purines, growth hormones, antibiotics, blood, pus, urine, fecal matter, parasites, and a host of other nasties. No way that eliminating it is bad-quite the opposite. A plant and grain based diet provides all of the nutrition needed by the human body. I think if we were meant to eat meat, we would have the capability to hunt, catch, kill and consume it without the use of tools or cooking. No, but you miss out on a lot of pleasure and are a nuisance to hosts who have to try to present rabbitt food atractively. No, being a vegetarian is not bad for your health.

There is not even `one` nutrient that is inaccessible to vegetarians. In most cases-- especially proteins-- the quality of the nutrients is actually lower in meats/animal products. Furthermore, vegetarians generally have healthier teeth and are not as likely to suffer from bowel problems.

(PS: In case there's any argument about proteins, I advise people to look up quorn.) No, vegetarians can be very healthy as long as you do all of the necessary research. You need to supplement some vitamins and you need to be specific as to what type of vegetarian diet you mean. Here is a list of the types of vegetarian diets. Vegan: only plant products are consumed. Lacto-vegetarians: eat dairy in addition to plant products but will not eat other animal products. Ovo-vegetarians: eat eggs in addition to plant products. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians: eat dairy and egg products as well as plant products. Pesco-vegetarians: eat fish and plant products but not meat or poultry. They may or may not eat dairy and egg products. You must make sure to ingest proteins that together make a complete protein, such as beans and rice....kidney beans and millet. If you do your research it can be a healthful way to live. My mother has been living a Lacto-ovo-vegetarian lifestyle for over 20 years and has been very healthy during that time. I hope this gives you a little more information to work with and it helps you. I would say that the exact opposite is true, the being a vegetarian is a healthier choice. Let me start be saying I am not a vegetarian but… In the past it was heathier not to be a vegetarian. This was because much less was understood about nutritional requirements, that couple with the fact that most people just struggled to get enough to eat meat or otherwise.

Meat has a tendency to concentrate things. This is why animals that are at the top of the food chain have higher rates of PVC (in the past) and mercury and other heavy metals now. Most animals these days are given antibiotics and many growth hormones, these would then concentrate and the top of the food chain (you) would have the highest rate. This is the same with the pesticides and fungicides used on the crops. While you might get these anyway unless you are eating organic food, the concentration would be much lower.

On the other hand vegetarian do need to watch more carefully what they eat. They are often deficient in B vitamins. This does not have to be it just requires special care in selecting the right foods.

I do not think I could manage as a vegetarian personally, might make it a few day but then would start craving a steak No. On the contrary it is very heathy.

Meat causes cancer etc Why take chances?

In last 5 years attended doctor only once. For anti-biotics.

I eat eat Krishna prasadam (vegetarian diet no meat fish eggs) - Food offered to Krishna first. It becomes sanctified.

Chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare/ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

You should take it up.

Eating intestines etc is not profitable - at all. How can they eat these carcasses? Civilized?

Building Hospitals is not progress. Prevention is better then cure.

Milk, Fruits, Nuts, Vegetables. Healthy diet. Simple living :High thinking. Nope I quit eating meat.. I exercise regularly practice martial arts and I am a furniture mover full time. Since I cut out all forms of meat I have never felt better. not if you eat enough non meat foods which contain protein and iron and all the vitamins people normally get from meat It can be. If you're a vegetarian who eats nothing but potato chips, chocolate bars, etc., then yes. If you eat a healthy, balanced diet rich in legumes, nuts, soy, whole grains, leafy green vegetables and fruits, it's a very, very healthy diet. Dont know because i am not a vegetarian but i dont know how you can live without eating meat. That depends on who you ask. The best diet is filled with fresh veggies and fruits, some protein and healthy grains. You can get protein however you choose, but lean protein is best. This kind of protien is found in soy as well as some grains and lean meats. If you eat enough soy, you don't need meat. But you should avoid red meat either way. And a lot of people believe that all meat is bad for you. No it is not bad for you.

I personally would not suggest eating too many meats and dairy products because they are foods very high in cholesterol and can lead to a number of diseases including elevated blood pressure and heart disease

Your body need varying amounts of more than 40 different nutrients. Eat plenty of fruits veggies grains and dried beans. Most foods that come from plants are naturally low in fat and contain no cholesterol. In addition most have large amounts of fiber. For these reasons plant foods are a good replacements for foods high in fats.

Plants also are the only sources of fiber. Fiber is an indigestible material that helps move food faster through the intestines. This can help reduce your chances of developing intestinal cancer. well come to the world of vegetarian because of you more and more animlas will save their lives thanks :-
Proteins: Body's protein needs can be provided by either animal or plant sources. Mixed protein diet obtained from various plant sources is better than animal protein and is recommended in diabetes, renal diseases and liver diseases. Mixed protein diet from different plant sources has been the pattern of diet in India for all vegetarians.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods; like cereals, grains, fresh and dry fruits, legumes, vegetable, greens, nuts etc. plant carbohydrates include' large amounts of starches, sugar and fibers which are important for gut functions. The body is better suited to a high carbohydrate diet than a low carbohydrate diet. In fact 55% of the food intake should be carbohydrate. All animal products do not contain carbohydrate which is essential for body.

Fat: Plant fats differ from animal fats in two different ways 1) they are cholesterol free 2) they generally contain more polyunsaturated fat and less saturated fats. Plant fats usually have higher polyunsaturated fat value than animal fats.

A diet which is low in cholesterol and which contains fat of a high PIS value is associated with a lower incident of coronary health disease.

Vitamins and Minerals: plant foods are rich in many vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is obtained by exposure of skin to sun light and this is not a problem in India.

Calcium: The vegetarians can meet their needs for calcium from dairy products. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dark green vegetables are good sources of Riboflavin as are legumes and whole grain cereal.

Iron: The problem of iron deficiency is relatively common but vitamin C significantly enhances absorption of iron hence it is advisable for vegetarians to include with each meal a food high in vitamin C which as lime, citrus fruits or juices.

Zinc: Zinc is found in large number of plant foods.

Fiber: Fiber is found only in vegetarian food like whole grain cereals, legumes, greens, fruits, vegetable etc.

Thus in vegetarian foods all requirement of nutrition for body growth and maintenance is fulfilled. One can have a complete and balanced diet provided we take enough food which is as close to nature as possible in maintaining sturdy and disease free body. It is equally helpful in curing many diseases.

ADVANTAGES OF VEGETARIAN DIET:
More & more evidence is surfacing that directly links a prolonged non- vegetarian diet to diseases as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma just to name a few.

1. LOGEVITY: Vegetarian can expect to live 4-10 years longer then the non-vegetarians.

" Source: Seventh day Adventists study

2. LESS HEART DISEASE: Because of low fat, saturated fat and cholesterol content of the vegetarian diet the risk of heart disease is lowered. High blood cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease.

3. LESS CANCER: Up to 40% of all cancers are diet related. Cancer death rates have been associated with obesity and high fat / low fiber diet. Vitamin A & C are thought to be protective against colon cancer. Low fat diets protect against prostrate and breast cancer. Indoles, lignans, isoflavones, protease inhibitors which are present in plant foods and shown to be potent anti carcinogens.

4. LESS BOWEL DISEASE: Diverticular disease and appendicitis occur more frequently with low fiber intake as in meat diet.

5. LEES OBESITY & LESS INCIDENCE OF DIABETES: It is easier to plan a low fat diet for a vegetarian then for a meat eater. The fiber in plant food dilutes the energy & provides a satisfying meal without all the calories. Diabetes over the age of 40 seems to be related to obesity. Not if you do it right. But you have to replace the nutrients commonly found in meat with something suitable for vegetarians, which I guess often means taking suppliments in pill form or else trailing the shops searching for a vegetarian alternative. It strikes me it must be a bind checking everything you eat to see if its been in contact with, or part of an animal and to make sure it meets your dietry needs. But if thats the road you wish to go down, then fair enough. Its your choice. no if you eat a balanced diet then you will probably be healthier than most meat eaters Yeah, it is kinda bad but if you really want to be one, eat more high-protein food such as peas and nuts and etc... no actually it is a great diet i lost a lot of weight (i was fat) LOL
and you are not eating dead helpless animals!!! vegetarian is not bad for health, as long as you do it right. I;m vegetarian myself and I am extremely healthy I make sure I eat well, get the right nutrients and try not to eat fatty fatty foods etc, or if I do I do so in moderation. vegetarians that do eat nothing but fried foods and chips etc will obviously be unhealthy but that goes for any diet vegetarian or otherwise.

Any diet that doesnt maintain a healthy balance of foods and doesn;t contain the right nutrients is bad for your health. I know some extremely healthy meat eaters as well as some even healthier veggies like myself ;)

Don;t listen to the person who says that you can eat chicken and fish if you are vegetarian as that's completely wrong, no food with a face!

:) Provided you learn what a balanced vegetarian diet is no it's not-it's healthier than a balanced omnivore diet. Nope no.................. but u will not get those proteins.........................
