Hey vegetarians and vegans, how's your protein and iron levels?!

Question:

Hey vegetarians and vegans, how's your protein and iron levels?

I am very happy to report that, after switching from a vegetarian diet to a vegan diet a few months ago, my recent blood test shows that, nutritionally, I am very healthy. Contrary to popular belief, not eating meat, dairy, and eggs will NOT kill you! Hooray. Take that, haters.

I haven't seen the report yet, but when they called they said I have perfectly normal iron and protein levels. EVERYTHING (well, except that pesky thyroid I've been dealing with the past few weeks) is at perfect levels. I am feeling very smug this morning.

I have seen a lot of people on here worried that they won't get enough protein or iron if they cut out animal products. For $150 bucks (or less if you have insurance) you can find out yourself.

Has anyone else had blood work done to check if everything's at the right levels?

Beebs had a full vitamin panel done recently that had wonderful results, too. I wanted to do that, but it was $800!

/me kicks Mina out because she's not a vegetarian or vegan.

Answers:

Yes, indeed! As you pointed out, I had the WHOLE workup, and also on my veggie 12 year old daughter-all levels of vitamins were great. I, too, have thyroid issues, but its much improved too. I was thrilled to get such a good profile back, and even more delighted for my daughters to be great-her dad has issues with her being a veggie, so this was proof perfect that if done right, a veggie diet rocks! Our iron levels were actually on the high side! In your face, non believers! lol
