It took seventeen answers before someone touched on the heart of the matter, I believe. Culture is what defines what we eat.
In Vegetarian cultures children are born vegetarian, it is what they believe is correct.
I have known many children who do not like meat, it always made me wonder if humans would naturally eat meat if we weren't taught to do it. As a vegetarian myself, I find some support in this idea. But, as a sociologist I believe there is a reaction to something cultural that the child doesn't understand.
Anything that isn't biological is taught, and learned. Eating, although biologically necessary, is taught and learned. Or, perhaps what I should say, is what we eat is taught to us.
