Do people that start to eat vegetarian gain alot of weight?!

Question:

Do people that start to eat vegetarian gain alot of weight?

I stopped eating chicken about a year ago.. and now after watching fast food nation, am completely turned off by beef, I have attempted to eat it a few times after and feel sick to the stomach.. I am going to cut out pork aswell considering that pork is a harbouring ground for parasites, and I already proir to the beef and chicken exclusion, have tried (as best as we can this day and age) to cut out all uneccessary sugar & sodium and eat foods as unprocessed as possible.. but I am scared that when this extra meat is cut out I will start to eat more Pasta, Rice and bread as a filler.. has anyone that has gone veg gained alot of weight because of this?? I am trying to lose weight (7 kilos - 15lbs) and dont want to jepordise this completly... Thanks.. any tips to keep healthy while killing the meat cravings most appreciated also.. also what do you replace Cheese and eggs with??

Answers:

i've been a vegetarian for 4 months and i've lost 10 lbs, its not that much for the given time period but its a decent weight lose. i think it just depends on how u eat ur fruits and veggies. dont eat more than u need, and to help u feel full is to eat lots of fiber.
remeber that, even tho ur a vegetarian, u can also gain weight from eating baked goods, vegan cookies, cakes, ice cream etc. u can still eat them from time to time, but everything should be in moderation.
also start ur day with a breakfast rich in fiber, (eg. mix ground flax seed in ur yogurt,[depends on ur preference, dairy or non-dairy] :)...
as for cheese and egg substitutes, theres lots out there. veggie slices can be found at meijer http://www.galaxyfoods.com/ourbrands/usa...
and if ur talking about replacing eggs for baked goods, applesauce is the answer, as for a thickening agent, go for cornstarch.^_^
boca, and morningstar ( http://www.seeveggiesdifferently.com/,... http://www.bocaburger.com/)have... meatless products, if u have rush of meat craving, hehe..not actually meat but it almost taste and feel like it but in a healthier form, low in calorie and fat, but not in sodium. they're high in sodium u know, i only eat them twice or thrice a month. our body only requires 500milligrams of sodium and the FDA only recommends 2400mg a day but i dont go over 500mg.
yes i still put salt for flavouring in my foods when i cook but most of the time i use fresh herbs, garlic and onions (more flavor).
and if u hear people talking bout vegetarians and vegans being protein defficient, pfft, *ignorant*.. i work out and lift weights everyday and i feel great. ,..hehe..i believe we get just as much protein as a meat eater does, and besides too much protein is like pouring acid rain on ur bones.

well good luck, hope i helped^_^..
