Vegan with an ant problem.?!

Question:

Vegan with an ant problem.?

I've been vegan for ten months now, and have found it incredibly easy- up to this point.
I do not eat honey and will go out of my way to help a spider.
But now I've come across a big problem (to me).
I have a big sugar- ant colony growing in my kitchen, and I don't know what to do about it. I keep my apartment fairly clean, so I don't know what they're eating. But they're there. I have the feeling that maybe they're living with the people next door, and have found a way into my apartment through a hole in the wall.
I don't want to kill them! I know I could easily mix up some borax and some sugar and they'd be dead very soon, but they have as much of a right to be here as me. They're not causing damage to the building, since they really only eat sugary stuff. But I don't want to step on the little dears, and I don't think I could move their colony to a safer place. I don't even know where they live. I'm keeping my apartment spotless.
Help, please? And be serious. Please.

Wow, thanks for so many great responses! I think it might be impossible to choose the right solution...
However, the ants are disappearing of their own volition. I guess they figured out there's nothing to eat here?
Thanks! <3

To Moonbloss... Yes, I doubt I will ever forget the exact date I went vegan. September 19 2007, at around 5 am.
I think to celebrate I might indeed have a small party. I've heard it referred to as a "veganniversary".
I was also thinking of getting a tattoo. Sarah Kramer (of the totally famous and awesome cookbook series) owns and manages a tattoo parlour in my town, and it's one of the only places with vegan ink!
It'll be my first time getting a tattoo and I was thinking of getting a big jellyfish tattooed on my back, cause jellyfish are beautiful, but I think I'll need something much smaller to introduce myself to that much pain. ; >

I had the same problem before too...I spent countless hours rounding them up and putting them outside..with some sugar. What I did was put a sheet of paperdown with corn syrup or sugar on it..and round them all up by blowing at them a bit..haha. After I got the bulk of them feeding id take the paper outside and put it under one of our bushes. This is almost like killing them, because they rely on there scent trails to find home and live with the colony..but its better then poisoning or crushing them. At least they get a fighting chance. Seeing the cinnamon or chalk or other ideas trying to get them to just leave flat out id try that first. I only moved them cause at the time I was living with my mom and she didn't have the same compassion I did, so I didn't have time to research options..just did what I thought of.

They lived in our plants in the shower too and I'd always pick up about 3-5 a day before I'd take a shower with toilet paper so I didn't drown them..I loved watching them actually walk around the upper edge..sugar ants are very docile and humble :) Not sure why everyone is so scared of them. I've even learned to overcome my fear of spiders (for the most part) from interacting with the sugar ants.. I figured the worst a spider (non-poisonous) could do is crawl on me if I try and capture it to take it outside.
