Can becoming a vegatarian help you lose weight?!

Question:

Can becoming a vegatarian help you lose weight?

cons and pros please!!!

Answers:

Not necessarily. The key to losing weight is still balancing calories in with calories expended. Vegetarians often compensate for cutting meat and dairy/poultry products out of their diet by eating more breads and pastas. They obtain their protein by using nuts, legumes, gluten- or soy-based meat analogues. Nuts and soybeans are high in fat, and fat is the highest in calories of any food.

While I believe that a vegetarian diet is the healthiest way to go, and lots of people do lose weight when going on a vegetarian diet because they tend to eat more foods high in fiber if they increase their intake of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains in absence of meat, dairy and poultry products, it isn't necessarily true that all vegetarians will lose weight. I've seen many overweight vegetarians.

The best way to lose weight is to increase activity that burns calories and/or decrease intake of calories.
