Should I take multi-vitamins?!
Should I take multi-vitamins?
I'm 15 and vegetarian; I've only done this for about year and a half, so I'm not exactly informed on the ways of the vegetable eater. I'm a little lactose intolerant so I generally don't eat dairy products unless in small amounts. I eat eggs on the recommendation of my doctor, one every week. I don't eat a lot of nuts because they're really high in fat. I'm not sure if this is an iron deficiency, but I'm tired a lot all the time. Even when I get a ridiculous amount of sleep. Maybe I'm missing something? Should I take multi-vitamins or supplements?

I don't get much protein, so my doctor thinks I should eat eggs once in awhile. 'Growing teen' or something of that sort. I do eat a lot of vegetables and grains [whole wheat bread and such].

Don't worry about the fat content in nuts and seeds. It's a GOOD fat for you! Something that's essential to a healthy body, especially for a vegetarian! They provide the fats and proteins your body needs for healthy hair, skin, nails, and joints! Also, they're an EXCELLENT source of protein! As a vegetarian, you need as much as you can get through nuts and seeds, beans and legumes. As for a multi-vitamin, absolutely take one! Even people on a SAD diet (standard american diet) should be taking one. You may be eating healthier foods, but that doesn't mean the pesticide used on them doesn't affect the nutritional content. Our food is not nearly as nutritionally sound as it was 50 years ago because of all the pesticides and crap. It's because of this reason I personally think everyone should be taking a multi-vitamin. And in your case, take a calcium pill as well. You don't want brittle bones when you're older. A vegetarian diet (as with every other diet) can be very healthy when you eat the right balance of things.
