How can I stay straight edge(No alcohol, drugs, etc) without veering off the path?
I don't do drugs, but I drink occasionally, and when I drink, I also eat badly. I want to stay straight edge and be healthy. I actually cut out alcohol, sugar, caffeine and white flour for a month, and felt great! Then I got into some weird mindset like I wanted to have fun and went out and bought the stuff to make sangria. I am 27, so its hard to socialize without drinking, but I try. Does anyone have any tips? And please don't post comments belittling me because of my lifestyle, or calling me a crazy christian, because I am not a christian.

You asked a perfectly reasonable question, so just ignore any ignorant comments you get from idiots who dont understand. If moderation is not a problem for you, there should be no reason not to enjoy the occaisional sangria or glass of wine. If you find that you cant stop at just one, your better option is to just not start in the first place. Mostly, its all just a matter of mindset-if you TELL yourself you will eat badly and overindulge, then you have already talked yourself into the behavior. Make a DECISION to enjoy a glass or two of sangria, after eating a high protein meal or snack (that will help prevent your body from absorbing the alcohol too fast) and stick to that decision. Sometimes, its the "all or nothing" mindset that sets you up for failure. You say its hard to socialize without drinking, but thats just a mindset too. TELL yourself that you can really enjoy socializing more when you are the one that stays sober-its quite a hoot to watch everyone else get tongue tied and silly, and YOU will be the one that will remember it all. Good luck! If you think you might have a bigger problem with alcohol than you care to admit, try the "diminish alcohol abuse" hypnosis download from the following site-very helpful info!

They also have many other hypnosis sessions that you can load on to your computer or MP3 player. I like the one for "eliminating negative thoughts" as it relates to MANY aspects, including alcohol, food, or smoking dependance.
Good luck. Dont be afraid to ask for help if you need it. If you just need a good source of motivation to stay healthy, just look in the mirror-YOU are worth it!
