Vegetarian or meat eater?!

Question:

Vegetarian or meat eater?

I've just watched lambs being slaughtered on 'The River cottage treatment' and was wondering how to justify the fact that I'm a meat eater. It wasn't pleasant viewing and I have often said that 'as long as it doesn't resemble the animal it used to be, I can eat it'. I know this is a pi$$ **** excuse, but I do enjoy meat. Wouldn't becoming a vegetarian be just as hypocritical? I mean you have to kill a living thing to eat it too don't you?
What are your thoughts guys?

amann, I never said it was a good thing to eat meat as long as it doesn't resemble the animal. I know that is a pathetic excuse, I said that.
So, it's ok to kill any living thing that doesn't have 'feeling'.....well, there's plenty of people I know that fall into that category - should I kill and eat them then?

Anonymous - I have been totally honest (no need to lie)
Most meat eaters (NOT including ME) would say that the animals don't suffer at point of death, maybe not but how do we know that when they are being led to slaughter they're not suffering. We don't.
It would seem that we need meat to maintain a healthly life. Don't know if I agree with that.
This just proves, each to their own and what a wonderful feeling it is to be able to make the choice because I can!

Thank you everyone for you thoughts and opinions. I have read them all and found them very interesting. I have the greatest respect for you all for your honesty and beliefs and would never criticise or judge any of you.
I have taken everyone's points on board and am still at loggerheads with myself,(if that's possible).
I'm afraid I have to put it to the great voting Y!A public to choose the best answer as I find it near impossible.
Thanks again xx

well you can justify your beliefs by saying that meat contains vital vitamins ect that you need to stay strong ect and that u absolutely detest vegetables even if u dont actually hate them lol
