Vegetarian teen and irregular periods for over 2 yrs, is this normal?!

Question:

Vegetarian teen and irregular periods for over 2 yrs, is this normal?

Strange question but a friend has a veggie teen who's periods started over 2 yrs ago, and has not settled to being anywhere near regular yet, at the docs she finally mentioned being veggie and the nurse was very suprised she'd not been told before that being a veggie makes periods much more irregular for a long time at the beginning, apparently it does settle down, anyone else heard of this and any idea how much longer she'll be waiting? Its driving her nuts!

Billy.... Grow up.

She does eat a healthy diet, lots of fresh fruit, veggies and takes extra vitamins. Thanks so far for the feedback

Answers:

she should try adding more healthy fats into her diet, like avocados and nut butters. i researched this previously actually, and i really think that fats have something to do with it!
