To all vegetarians/vegans..... Where do you draw the line?
Ok so I was wondering.
Vegans and vegetarians primarily don't like meat because its "Cruel", you kill an animal. fine.
But, my question is, where do you draw the line?
have you ever stepped on an ant? even by accident? When you mow your lawn, you surely shred lots of bugs. Does this bother you?
Answers:
Bugs are animals too. I do not eat honey. I do not wear silk.
I have to accept that animals will die because of something I have done to directly cause it. Bugs or small mammals darting across the road, being hit by the bus I'm on. Animals in the field being mowed down by wheat harvesters.
This is something unfortunate, but really, what can I do? I'm living in the city out of necessity; I can't make my own organic garden. When I can, however, I will definitely not have a lawn with a lawnmower. I might have a big vegetable and herb garden, and maybe a meadow populated with indigenous plants. Pretty to look at, and good for wild animals to graze on.
I look out for bugs on the sidewalk. I will walk around them or direct them towards the grass.
When there are bugs in my apartment, I either let them find their way out, help them out by trapping them and releasing them out the window, or leave them alone. Spiders would do better outside, for instance, and so would wasps. I keep my apartment clean to avoid ant problems, but I do not bother the silverfish living in my bathroom.
When I see a spider, I can't help but have a sense of wonder. Each animal is special, even the little ones that make people squirm.
