How do I make my mother take me seriously now that I am a vegan?!

Question:

How do I make my mother take me seriously now that I am a vegan?

Just recently, like, yesterday, I decided to become a vegan. I'm 14, and my mom doesn't take me seriously at all. She refuses to buy more fruits and veggies for me, to try soymilk, or anything like that. The only food I've been eating for the last 2 days is canned oranges and bread. I can't live on bread and canned oranges alone!! What do I do? I don't have money to go and buy my own food, so should I just go back to being an omnivore? Honestly, I'd rather not. I did a lot of research on slaughterhouses and the thought of eating meat makes me kind of sick. I feel like I'm eating Bambi, or my dogs or something..

PLEASE HELP!! And serious answers only, please. Don't be a jerk.

Love, Erin

Answers:

That's rough. Can you eat dinner at friends' houses or something until your mom realizes that you are serious?
Also, you can offer to make some meals for her (provided she buy the groceries) and get some great vegan recipes and make them for her so she can see that you are serious. If she truly cares about you, she won't let you starve - but if she won't support your eating habits, maybe just ask her for money to buy your own food.
But you shouldn't expect her to go vegan as well - you'll have to compromise. You can make the same meals, and just leave the meat out of yours. If she's a rational person, she can work with you on this.
