A Question for Vegetarians....?!
A Question for Vegetarians....?
I am considering becoming a vegetarian
however.. I am wondering...
if it is "wrong" to kill living things and eat them... aren't plants living things too? Wouldn't they be better off in their natural environment too? Couldn't I argue that plants have "souls" too?
where do you draw the line?
Answers:
It depends if your doing it because you thinks it's wrong to kill living things, or whether you think suffering is wrong. Keep in mind, there are many reasons people become vegetarians, apart from humane reasons. Such as, the impact livestock farming in such large numbers has on the environment - in which case, eating plants would not be a problem, seeing as they don't have environmental impact like animals do. (Although, yes, that is also debatable, seeing as all over the world large areas of natural forest is being destroyed for crops...)
The main point is, research indicates there is no reason to believe plants feel pain. To quote an answer I've read for another question (and sorry! i can't remember who it was) if plants could feel pain, would they really have been designed to be stuck in one place their whole lives?
As far as where to draw the line, you can draw it where you feel comfortable. And to quote someone else again, every little bit you do is something. Kinda like most charity ads, any little amount you contribute makes a difference to someone. A thousand little ripples will eventually make a wave.
Good luck!
