To all the vegans.........?!

Question:

To all the vegans.........?

if you had a baby, would you put him/her through a vegan diet also? the reason i asked is because i was watching the news and there was a vegan woman who raised her baby as a vegan and after a while, the baby died. i don't know if it were because babies need the nutrition from meat and cheese and milk that carrot sticks aren't providing, but i was just cirious.

Hi,
:)
Yes, we know of that baby quite well. Many meat eaters came to our section to use this baby to celebrate their "win" on how being a vegan is "unhealthy." It was sad all around.

Also, "putting through a vegan diet" sounds harsh. Veganism is not some crazy way to lose weight, but a lifestyle for people who are striving to live a healthy and cruelty-free lifestyle.

Veganism is good for you. Many healthy vegan babies are raised all over the world and the ADA also has explained that veganism is healthy at all ages. With that, here was my response about the situation you are describing.

The parents fed the baby nothing but soy milk and apple juice and never took thier baby to the doctor, even as it was withering away.

This baby was not killed by a vegan diet; this baby was killed by murders. Even the judge knew they used veganism as a scapegoat to get out of going to jail.

These parents thought they could get away with it because they know that most meat eaters (and therefore most of the general public) know next to nothing about veganism, and that many people, (without any research whatsoever) will believe that veganism is terrible and kills people.

Would a meat eater feed a baby nothing but apple juice and cow's milk? Of course not, because it is understood that cow's milk is not a substitute for a balanced diet. All vegans know quite well that soy milk is a substitute for cow milk, not formula. And if they ever were not sure, they could read the big label on each container of soy milk that specifically states that it is not to be used as a formula for infants. And these "vegan" parents knew that quite well when they murdered their baby.

I am putting vegan in parentheses because just as someone would not be a vegan if they intentionally killed a cow, someone is not vegan if they intentionally kill a baby or any other human. Vegans believe in life and the right to life for all, not death.

At least the judge was educated enough to see beyond their ridiculous excuse. Apparently he understands that there are tons of people all over the world who were raised vegan since birth.

Here is some info on healthy vegan and vegetarian infants and children.

p.s. There was another family who recently killed their babies (or almost did until they were caught) because they did nothing but play video games. They had food, but they never fed it to their children, nor did they bathe them or take them out of their cribs. So a similar assumption would be that parents who play video games are unfit as well.

And yes, I would at least raise my children as vegetarians. I know this is healthy and I know how to provide all the necessary nutrients. They could decide to eat meat when they are older, but just like I would make healthy decisions to make my children go to school and the dentist, I would make the healthy decision to pass on my moral beliefs of not eating animals.

Honestly, you may find that many vegans and vegetarians know a lot more about nutrition than most meat eaters because we heard so many scarry myths that we really had to study and look up a lot of information. Many vegans can tell you which foods contain how much of which nutrients of the top of our heads.

Many (not all) meat eaters will tell you that a steak is one of the healthiest things you could put into your body. Just watch when a toddler has fried chicken nuggets and broccoli on his plate and decides he is full. Many meat eating parents will tell the child to at least finish the chicken nuggets.

Hope this helped clear things up.
