Just turned vegan... please explain this!?
Why should i not be eating honey? How are the bee's suffering? enviromental reasons are my biggest reason for turning vegan, then health, then the rights of the animals... i know "every sentient being has the right to freedom from suffering" and that makes sense to me, it's taken me a while to really "feel" it but i'm coming around. I'm still killing spiders and stuff though and find it really hard to afford insects the same respect... so why don't alot of vegans eat honey?

i realise vaganisim is a personal thing and not a "club" with strict rules like some may think... i know some vagans don't consume honey and i expect they ahve a better reason than "the rules say no animal bi products" i just want the information so i can make an informed decision of my own...

I think this website explains much better than I could:

Short paragraph about the term vegan in health vs. environmental vs. animal rights reasons:

Why even environmental vegans should care about the honeybee:

It's important to read the whole page, esp. the last link, to get a good feel for the arguments put forth by vegans about honey. Then, if you still do not agree with the arguments, eat honey, kill spiders, etc., better 99% than not at all, right? Though you may want to go by something like "strict vegetarian" rather than "vegan", for accuracy (as explained by the middle link). It's up to you whether you want to eat honey... honey is just one of many sweet-tasting syrups though (a couple which even taste just like honey!), so it's quite easy to avoid. Happy reading! :)
